I have a wacom device, it is detected by the system, according to the syslog. It does not appear in the input device list. Trying to use "cat /dev/input/wacom/usb/0" returns B_ERROR, is that normal? shouldn

't I be able to open the device like this and read from it?
<nephele>
or does this only work with ioctls?

Okay, I'm still getting read faults with another protocol specified... Is there some "good" way to inspect the device to figure out which protocol is needed?

hi, anybody using WebPositive for dev.haiku-os.org?
<pol>
It seems it cannot Filter by Component at ../query :)
<Begasus[m]>
I sometimes use it with WebPositive
<Forza>
Hi :) Is there a kernel log or similar system log in Haiku? How do I access it?
<pol>
/boot/system/var/log/syslog
<pol>
The thing that is causing my concern as to wheter it fully work is when I try to select Component, Applications and then next drop-down menu appears in Chrome :|
<Begasus[m]>
pol: seems to work here? https://dev.haiku-os.org/query?component=%5E-+General&owner=!begasus&status=assigned&status=in-progress&status=new&status=reopened&order=priority&col=id&col=summary&col=status&col=type&col=priority&col=milestone&col=component

[haiku/haiku] 4dd25011f0e1 - nfs4: Avoid deleting nodes when unlinking
<Forza>
pol: thanks. found it.
<Begasus[m]>
Forza: you can run "tail -f /var/log/syslog" in Terminal to have live output from syslog
<pol>
In general, yes I think it is working correctly as a system (bugtracker) but Web+ have trouble fully rendering.. Just try VIEW TICKET from the front page and try to select Component there and refine it to Tracker/WebPositive or something else.
<Forza>
I was surprised I could mount a usb disk with btrfs over spice to a haiku guest and it would mound there :D
<Forza>
And we have several browsers that work too.
<pol>
Could this be a problem with my specific setup, for examaple network adapter..
<Begasus[m]>
pol: I set owner "is not" there (as I don't have an open ticket it seems)
<pol>
It's just not adding another drop-down menu for me after I select Applications hehe but I can access it from any other ticket by clicking the "Component" link.
<pol>
what do you mean by "over spice" here?
<Begasus[m]>
over spice?
Accessays has joined #haiku
<pol>
I'm reffering to what Forza said about mounting
<Begasus[m]>
ah, my bad :)
<pol>
Anyway, I'm looking for that ticket for WebPositive where somebody couldn't click the back button.
<Forza>
pol: spice is like vnc, but allows usb pass through and sound

<OscarL>

<scanty>
good morning, good afternoon, good evening and good night :-)
<OscarL>
hey there scanty :-)
<scanty>
oh hi OscarL
<scanty>
what's new and exciting?
<OscarL>
Pe about to get a 2.5.0 realease on HaikuPorts :-)
<nekobot>
• OscarL (01e04456): pe: update to version 2.5.0. (#12383)…
<scanty>
OscarL: what is new in Pe?
<Begasus[m]>
thanks for correcting scanty , won't be the last I guess :)
<scanty>
Begasus[m]: sure thing. Glad you're not annoyed with me ^_^
<OscarL>
mostly minor fixes here and here, scanty. most "user visible" changes are some updates to language extensions/syntax coloring, I'd say, and as "new feature" being able to call "Pe --diff file1.cpp file2.cpp" (or "lpe --diff file1.cpp file2.cpp).
<scanty>
ah nice
<pol>
What actions trigger Beep Sound?
<Begasus[m]>
nah, happy to learn scanty , it's obvious to you, not always to me :) (like to vs too - got that now though) :)
<OscarL>
I feel like Pe's diff mode was underutilized, barely known... but it is quite handy.
<scanty>
Begasus[m]: :-)
<scanty>
english can be tricky at times.
<OscarL>
pol: calling system_beep() for example :-P
<OscarL>
I had fun making that work with a PC speaker a few weeks ago.
<OscarL>
(I should try to fix one last bug on that driver, and submit it for review, even if just to get a laugh).
<pol>
Working on laptop at the moment so no internal speaker I think, but the beep app works when I set the sound in Sounds.
<OscarL>
scanty: if curious, here's the "changelog" for Pe, as generated by github... https://github.com/HaikuArchives/Pe/releases/tag/v2.5.0 (not sure what it took as "previous" version, and funny that most of us appear as "new contributors, despite having commits in there from 2003/2004 :-D)
<scanty>
thanks, OscarL
<pol>
Pe looks weird on bigger resolutions - scroll bars and icons are not scaling, so I prefer StyledEdit.
<OscarL>
pol: All 4 netbooks I have at hand have a tiny piezo buzzer, but Haiku doesn't currently has a pc speaker driver (that was what I was toying with a few weeks ago).
<OscarL>
pol: from the new Pe "release notes": "Fix HDPI issues, using be_control_look->GetScrollBarWidth()"
<OscarL>
you should be able to update to 2.5.0 now.

I found a GUI tool to edit attribures, it's called resourcer - usefull for editing those WebPositive bookmarks.
<scanty>
be careful with that one, it's still quite a bit buggy.
<pol>
Replacing default apps with installs from HaikuDepot? I wonder what your favorite apps are for audio/video/picture?
<scanty>
pol: i think you misunderstood. Resourcer itself is buggy.
<pol>
And I should add pdf there
<pol>
It's unrelated thought to the previous statement.
<scanty>
ah, okay
<scanty>
sorry!~
<pol>
Sometimes the application itself is working great and offering additional functionality or performance but launching with it from Tracker doesn't work.
<pol>
Even when I select custom application in FileTypes it says selected application does not support opening this file type.
<OscarL>
pol: for apps that work when started from Terminal, but fail when started via Tracker/Deskbar (or sometimes the other way around), please file a ticket over https://github.com/haikuports/haikuports.
<OscarL>
it is, usually, not that difficult to fix.
<pol>
OK, I will have to login into my github account if I have one :)
<OscarL>
filetype handling support varies, particularly for software ported from other platforms.

Yes, it's like that on Linux too. But I found out SMplayer with mplayer backend can play 1080p video when I set 4 threads decoding but MediaPlayer can't.
<pol>
And for images it varies but qview works nicely with double click on file association. With browsing directory tree phototonic is the best.
<pol>
For audio I like musikcube the most. With PDF I didn't find the best yet BePDF have good performance and renders mostly correctly nut lacks coontinous mode.
