<AlienSoldier> i was expecting to see less delay between resolution change between workspace, nope. Probably VESA bottleneck.
<AlienSoldier> about 2 sec
<AlienSoldier> it is 0 sec beween workspace of same resolution.

<AlienSoldier> audio driver does not seem the same in 64bit, i don't have as many slider setting
<AlienSoldier> ho, seem this is when i use output maping
<AlienSoldier> now i see those slider
<OscarL> Mmm, I'm using node monitoring to watch for changes in a setting file, but my "reload settings" method gets called even when the only changes to the file are in its extended attributes (like Pe saving window position and such).
<OscarL> wonder if i can get a notification only for actual data changes.
<OscarL> duh. I'm using B_WATCH_ALL. Let's switch to B_WATCH_STAT
Nasina has joined #haiku
<OscarL> seems like replacing an input_server filter addon that is actively doing NodeMonitoring is a sure way to end up with a dead app_server.

<AlienSoldier> audacious 4.4.2 is hinted here https://discuss.haiku-os.org/t/audacious-media-player-on-haiku-os/4152/19 but i don't see it in haiku depot
<AlienSoldier> also it seem we lack this plug-in for it (to play N64 soundtrack) https://github.com/saschaklick/audacious-usf-plugin
<AlienSoldier> just like in 32 bit, 64 bit trashcan have problem knowing when it is empty or not.
Nasina has joined #haiku
<OscarL> there's a PR open at HaikuPorts for Audacius 4.4.2, but it is not yet reviewd nor merged.
<OscarL> regarding the trashcan icon... see https://dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/19572, and maybe vote on it.
<AlienSoldier> opened 3 days ago, this sure is older bug than this :)

<OscarL> Morning Begasus[m]. I don't recall finding alternatives to lsof, not at least last time I've checked.
<Begasus[m]> Hola OscarL , still up? :)
<Begasus[m]> yeah, been searching the net a bit, no luck there so far
<Begasus[m]> and lsof can't be build :)
<OscarL> yeah, still up, but not for long. You're up early :-)
<Begasus[m]> of to dogschool early (duty today) :)
<OscarL> ah... sunday already (I lose track of dates easily :-D).
<Begasus[m]> so I build kcalc with kde-builder, and can launch it with that, lsof was suggested to see which processes it uses
<Begasus[m]> same here after retirement :)
<Begasus[m]> for kcalc, I can see the difference launched with kde-builder or with Tracker, so I "guess" it uses the right components build earlier by kde-builder
<Begasus[m]> I "saw" a diff, not anymore :P
<OscarL> if it is to see what "process" it uses (instead of files)... listimage should suffice.
<jessicah> OscarL: is that vote thing a plugin for trac?
<OscarL> jessicah: I belive it is, yes. standard Trac didn't had it last time I managed an instance.

<Begasus[m]> that works OscarL ! thanks :)
<OscarL> np. altenatively.... "strace <program>" and some grepping can help too.
<Begasus[m]> this listimage should be enough, it points to the newly created libraries instead of the system ones :)
<OscarL> yeah, that's the "standard" tool in Haiku to see if you're using the correct binaries loaded (or to be reminded that you have an old and broken one under non-packaged that you had forgotten about :-P)
<OscarL> s/using/getting/
<Begasus[m]> seems when launched with Tracker it also uses the new libraries
<Begasus[m]> never thought I would be able to setup kde-builder for this, or that it would actually work :)

<HaikuUser> what are some essential programs for Haiku that aren't preinstalled? (e.g. Falkon/IceWeasel, LibreOffice, etc.)
<Habbie> there is a browser. I am not yet sure the other browsers are better (but i have not tried them all)
<Habbie> libreoffice definitely comes to mind
<Habbie> but 'essential' is so personal
<Habbie> i use libreoffice once a month, at best
<Habbie> other people spend their days in a word processor or spreadsheet
<Habbie> you could look at what a random linux desktop distro installs by default
<HaikuUser> vlc doesnt play dvds, are they any good dvd player apps in the depot?
<HaikuUser> like mplayer
<Habbie> dvd or dvd images?
<Habbie> maybe mpv?
<Habbie> (mpv is an mplayer fork that i think is more maintained now)
<HaikuUser> should i install reactos or haiku on one of my secondary laptops

<Begasus[m]> back
<Begasus[m]> habbie: +2 :)
<Habbie> on? my trace patch?
<Begasus[m]> your answer to no biaz plz :)
<Habbie> ah yes :D
<Habbie> Begasus[m], i see you mirror haikuports on codeberg, but if i actually want to submit something i still need github, right?
<Begasus[m]> right habbie
<Begasus[m]> can't create a PR from codeberrg to github
<Habbie> indeed, i get that
<Habbie> although gitlab has been talking about 'federation'
<Habbie> i wonder if that will go anywhere
<Begasus[m]> maybe not in my lifetime anymore :)
<Begasus[m]> but gitlab is as bad in WebPositive as github
<Habbie> oh i bed
<Habbie> github has become a terrible website over the last two years
<Habbie> i used codeberg for the first time two weeks ago and it is just delightful
<Habbie> you open a page. the page loads. it is done loading. it is then also actually done loading
<Habbie> github then goes and fetches 5 more things
<Habbie> in the distance, sirens
<Begasus[m]> rendering is bogus for both, codeberg is nice indeed on that part
<erysdren> how well do forgejo instances load on haiku browsers? to be honest i haven't checked myself
<Habbie> codeberg is forgejo
<Habbie> i'll try
<Begasus[m]> pretty good erysdren :)
<erysdren> yay
<erysdren> :D
<Begasus[m]> no issues there (codeberg runs that too)
<Habbie> oof. if you start webpositive with broken internet, you lose all open tabs
<Begasus[m]> that and when clicking on a link when WebPositive is not open :)
<Habbie> erysdren, works well indeed
<Habbie> Begasus[m], because then it starts with just that one new tab and no old ones?
<Habbie> oh, not like that, but still, all gone except for one
<Habbie> no wait those were already empty
<Habbie> Begasus[m], what do you mean? :)
<Begasus[m]> just close WebPositive and click on the link provided by erysdren
<Begasus[m]> all previous open tabs are gone
<Habbie> no, just works for me
<Habbie> i tried with a link from terminal
<Begasus[m]> Alt+click?
<Habbie> yes
<Begasus[m]> haven't tried that yet, maybe it works there?
<Habbie> that would be a bit surprising!

<Habbie> nice
<Habbie> ah, 58804

<AlienSoldier> i now have that annoying problem when i press delete (on keyboard) on a file, that directory become an icon view from my normal list view (and the file is not deleted.
<AlienSoldier> i need to drag it to the trash to avoid this
<AlienSoldier> i don't have a "shortcut" set that could cause that.
<Habbie> i solved that problem by not having a Delete key ;)
<Habbie> (i'm kidding, i haven't had that problem)
<AlienSoldier> quiting tracker fix it, until it eventually come back.
<Begasus[m]> haven't seen that here either

<OscarL> thx :-)
<AlienSoldier> Begasus[m] no, the one next to insert and end.
<AlienSoldier> it is possible that numlock was activated, i did not noticed
<Begasus[m]> ah ok, thought maybe numlock could be involved

<Habbie> now running 58862 + five patches, works well https://codeberg.org/Habbie/haiku/compare/master...acer-c732
<Habbie> and now i can safely run 'pkgman update'
<OscarL> IMO... is possible that you'll end up with working brigthness control after returning the "proper" PCH id in detect_intel_pch() (INTEL_PCH_SPT or INTEL_PCH_CNP most likely), and by *maybe* using INTEL_MODEL_KBYM instead of INTEL_MODEL_SKYM (as your device is a tad newer than skylake).

<Habbie> i mentioned the noto cjk fonts were 118 megabyte of the 468 megabytes in packages
<Habbie> on a fresh anyboot that's only 30mb
<Habbie> no, sorry. after pkgman update it's only 30mb
<Habbie> anyboot gets old versions of a lot of things
<OscarL> from a couple weeks ago: "Noto Sans CJK: Use variable width font (#10853)". maybe that made them smaller?
<OscarL> if you need to reclame even more space (and you don't care for CJK fonts)... you can always unpack those large font .hpkg... remove the fonts, and repack it. Makes for a pretty compact .hpkg that still satisfies the needed dependencies (at leat for pkgman :-P)

<Habbie> i just realised the table in intel_extreme is not sorted by PCI ID
