Hey I usually don't have a mouse hooked up to my haiku computer is there a command to cycle through IRC channels?
<Ellenor>
in Vision?
<Ellenor>
if I had a copy open I'd try to find out and tell you haha
<janking>
Good morning to you all :)

g'morning peeps
<Begasus[m]>
poopnugget142 you can use Alt+arrowKeys in Vision
<Begasus[m]>
Habbie my "default" anyboot image is 3GB on 64bit, 4GB on 32bit :)
<poopnugget142>
Oh my goodness thank you so much Begasus
<poopnugget142>
That is very useful
<Begasus[m]>
np :)

Good morning to you all :)
<JesusGod-Pope666>
Usually taking to much vitamin would make me go to the toilet to flush it out - it seems I just keep farting terrible in my old age being over bloated... Although it should not be a bad thing keeping the vitamin high in the body as it keeps being the system.
<JesusGod-Pope666>
janking: morning
<JesusGod-Pope666>
Flushing the system with antioxidants.
<janking>
:)
<JesusGod-Pope666>
Forgot to buy vitamin E that reactivates vitamin C.
<JesusGod-Pope666>
But did get done vitamin pills and that has a little.
<JesusGod-Pope666>
Some
<JesusGod-Pope666>
So totally high on vitamin C.... Multiple vitamin C symptoms is evident.
<Begasus[m]>
morning janking JesusGod-Pope666
<janking>
:)
<JesusGod-Pope666>
Anyway should do the Boody some good. I guess I will get more for the money with the vitamin C staying in the Gut.
<JesusGod-Pope666>
The vitamin we do not produce any longer.
<JesusGod-Pope666>
Probably one of the things that kept people to be able to reach over 900 years that apparently broke at some point.
<JesusGod-Pope666>
Many animals make vitamin C themself. We don't anymore.
<JesusGod-Pope666>
So we get it from the diet now although pretty low doses overall.
<JesusGod-Pope666>
I thing it was a big that made 20 grams a day or so. But would need to verify that to be sure.
<Habbie>
i checked on the matrix side, there is it correct
<Begasus[m]>
got this far already on riscv64 booting :)
<Habbie>
multiline messages rarely make it through unharmed from matrix to irc
<Habbie>
Begasus[m], oh wow!
<Habbie>
ah qemu
<Habbie>
still cool
<Habbie>
did you have any challenges?
<Begasus[m]>
yep :)
<Begasus[m]>
not really no
<Habbie>
ok
<Habbie>
i keep thinking i should get some riscv hardware but then i realise i already have hobbies
<fancy2209[m]>
By the way how hard would it be to allow Haiku to be booted from Linux'a kboot system?
<fancy2209[m]>
Petitboot is the bootloader that the PS3 supports and the cfw forces you to use petitboot and a specific version of it, so for PS3 I'd need that
<Habbie>
and porting problems
<Begasus[m]>
just updating etc is a thing so far :)
<fancy2209[m]>
Begasus[m]: Oh wow congrats
<fancy2209[m]>
I've heard riscv is very annoying
<Begasus[m]>
I didn't do anything there fancy2209 :)
<Habbie>
fancy2209[m], i have an interesting rephrasing of that question: "if somebody made kexec for haiku work on x86_64, would that help you on ps3?"
<fancy2209[m]>
Begasus[m]: Ah I misunderstood, still cool to see it working
<fancy2209[m]>
Habbie: I think so
<fancy2209[m]>
You'd want it to work everywhere the kernel works
<Habbie>
ack
<Habbie>
apparently beos required 16MB of RAM
<fancy2209[m]>
* You'd want the kexec support to work on every arch the haiku kernel works
<Habbie>
but that's not a really fair comparison
<Habbie>
fancy2209[m], sure
<Habbie>
but getting it on a popular arch might be easier
<Habbie>
as a start
<fancy2209[m]>
Yeah I just mean if done right it shouldn't blow up on other places
<fancy2209[m]>
In my head at least
<fancy2209[m]>
I'm doing PowerPC to get more familiar with Haiku
<Habbie>
:)
<fancy2209[m]>
Oh wait I just realized
<fancy2209[m]>
PowerPC would be the other port that could support BeOS binaries
<Habbie>
heh, yes indeed
<Habbie>
on 32 bits at least
<fancy2209[m]>
Which is what I'm going to focus on first
<Begasus[m]>
../src/add-ons/translators/webp/WebPTranslator.cpp:21:10: fatal error: webp/encode.h: No such file or directory

those still give me a scare when I see them passing by on the screen ...

<Begasus[m]>
also in ... haiku/generated.x86_64/build_packages/libwebp-1.4.0-1-x86_64/develop/headers/webp (so it should be found I guess?)
<Habbie>
i wonder if there's an easy way to build just the first stages (bootloader, kernel) before having to deal with compile errors for the entire system
<Begasus[m]>
build doesn't error out on this, but still ...
<Skipp_OSX>
jam -q kernel
<Habbie>
oh not bad
<Skipp_OSX>
I'm not sure how to build just the boot loader I wish I knew
<Habbie>
probably similar
freddietilley has quit [Quit: WeeChat 4.6.3]
<Skipp_OSX>
yeah but boot_loader and variants don't work. When kallisti5 made a small compiler mixup in boot loader recently I was trying to build it to test and couldn't figure it out.
<Habbie>
right
<Skipp_OSX>
It's probably part of libbe.so or something
<fancy2209[m]>
i think it's not using the c23 unzip
<fancy2209[m]>
is there a way to do a clean build
<fancy2209[m]>
like make clean
<Begasus[m]>
not sure if "jam clean" works, otherwise delete the "objects" directory in generated ... ?
<fancy2209[m]>
yep
<fancy2209[m]>
oh
<fancy2209[m]>
this is an issue before it gets to packages
<fancy2209[m]>
it's from the code in src/bin/unzip

so i guess my issue is gcc15

<phschafft>
uspi.
<fancy2209[m]>
oh
<fancy2209[m]>
of course i missed something in the docs
<fancy2209[m]>
When running jam for bootstrap, the -j option is broken. It will result in starting multiple instances of Haikuporter that will all try to generate the package infos files from the repository at the same file, and will confuse each other. You can either run a single-process build, or re-run jam if there is a build failure to see if it will go further.
<fancy2209[m]>
* > When running
<fancy2209[m]>
btw I don't know what changed
<fancy2209[m]>
but the triple is powerpc-apple-haiku now
<fancy2209[m]>
less_bootstrap is missing ppc as an arch
<Skipp_OSX>
anybody here in Haiku recent build can check something for me?
<fancy2209[m]>
what do you need checked?
<Skipp_OSX>
right-click on Desktop to open context menu, then click on Desktop to close it, does Tracker crash?
<Habbie>
no crash
<Skipp_OSX>
ok good
<Habbie>
58862
<gordonjcp>
haiku hrev58793, no crash
<Skipp_OSX>
must be something I did then
<gordonjcp>
just pulling down an update
<Habbie>
i do have a bunch of tracker crash reports to work through, but they're not about this
<Habbie>
i think they were about dark mode
<gordonjcp>
hrev58881, no crash
<gordonjcp>
Skipp_OSX: just anywhere on the desktop?
<Skipp_OSX>
I'm trying to figure out why CountView sub-menus are not redrawing the window correctly. CountView is the little 5 items menu in bottom left.
<Skipp_OSX>
yeah just anywhere on Desktop to open the menu, then click again off the menu on Desktop to close it.
<gordonjcp>
not sure what you mean about the CountView, what am I looking for?
<fancy2209[m]>
i'll try on a fresh install for you gimme a sec
<Skipp_OSX>
all you gotta do is tell me if it crashes or not and you did. I must have caused the crash trying to get CountView working.
<gordonjcp>
tried right-clicking and letting the first menu pop up, tried right-clicking and mousing off it, no crash
<Skipp_OSX>
ok good
<gordonjcp>
not sure if it's related, that's in just generic qemu with kvm and 4GB of RAM allocated
<gordonjcp>
I could try with less RAM?
<Skipp_OSX>
nah shouldn't matter it's a double free
<Skipp_OSX>
I rebuilt off master and still crashing here, that's why I asked, but maybe something didn't get cleared

<PulkoMandy> "I thought I had written enough..." <- I started running the bootstrapping before the docs
<fancy2209[m]>
grave mistake
<fancy2209[m]>
still this is good to check anyways
<fancy2209[m]>
when GCC 15 drops in debian in the next who knows how many years this will all break
<PulkoMandy>
yes, please send patches for all the things you fix
<PulkoMandy>
and yes, my server is running debian sid and already the bootstrap is not working here, but I didn't find a way to fix it yet
<PulkoMandy>
that's why I put Debian 12 as the supported platform. I'll be happy if we manage to add more supported platforms to the list
<fancy2209[m]>
so current fixes I've had to do were
<fancy2209[m]>
on zlib and zstd, add -DCMAKE_POLICY_VERSION_MINIMUM=3.5 to cmake
<fancy2209[m]>
for bash
<fancy2209[m]>
add -std=gnu17 to cflags
<fancy2209[m]>
and currently trying to use texinfo 7.2 instead of 4
<fancy2209[m]>
since 7.2 seems to support GCC15 properly
<fancy2209[m]>
* add -std=gnu17 to cflags (also put it on CFLAGS_FOR_BUILD but not sure if that is required)
<fancy2209[m]>
I had to add fPIC to the cflags and cxxflags for it to link
<fancy2209[m]>
May be a PowerPC issue
<PulkoMandy>
texinfo 4 is only needed for gcc2, so yes, on anything but 32 bt x86 it should not be used
<PulkoMandy>
-fPIC should be the default in our gcc when building for Haiku, unless cmake is forcing -fno-pic or -fPIE, it should work. So maybe our gcc configuration for ppc isn't quite right
<PulkoMandy>
(but it's fine to workaround it at buildsystem level for now)
