• Begasus (ebfc0c2c): knavalbattle, bump to 25.04.0 (#12361)
<OscarL>
Hey there Begasus[m]! Having fun with 25.04.0, I see :-)
<Begasus[m]>
yeah, not bumping to 25.04.1 now :)
<Begasus[m]>
makes it easier on updating them to list up current versions
<Begasus[m]>
not touching the PIM recipes where not needed also, most of those are still related to akonadi anyway
<Begasus[m]>
looks like you've been helping out habbie also OscarL :) +1
<OscarL>
just providing a bit of moral support, at best :-)
<Begasus[m]>
still nice!
<OscarL>
:-)
<Begasus[m]>
PS, you list_work/download_dirs did a great job earlier, big thanks there! :D
<OscarL>
saw the logs! glad to know you find them useful!
<OscarL>
quite some stuff under download, you seemed to have :-D
nephele has quit [Quit: Vision[]: i've been blurred!]
<Begasus[m]>
mostly under work dirs
<Begasus[m]>
download was about 10GB
<Begasus[m]>
then cleaned some backups/obsolete packages, ended with almost 140GB free space :)
<OscarL>
ah, must have misread/misinterpreted then. I thought you gained 70 GB clearing workdirs, and another 50 GB after clearing downloads.
<Begasus[m]>
nah, you were right, I wasn't clear, that was download + backups/obsolete ones
<OscarL>
I know only need to keep an eye out for downloads, mostly, since using RAMFS most of the time for workdirs (not that practical for your work on KDE/frameworks, of course).
<OscarL>
s/know/now/
<OscarL>
Mmm, now that I think of it... I use RAMFS mostly because well.. it works on RAM, and because it automatically uses/releases memory as needed. But some differences in RAMFS vs BFS give me problems...
<Begasus[m]>
yeah, you mentioned that before
<OscarL>
those diffs *should* dissapear if I used ramdisk + a BFS volume...
<OscarL>
instead of just RAMFS.
<OscarL>
only question is... does ramdisk also handles needed/uneeded memory as RAMFS does?
<nekobot>

Now that "accidental click removal" input_server filter is able to automagically reload its settings file... I finally can fine-tune its settings without recompiling/rebooting :-)
<OscarL>
said filter makes it impossible for my mouse to generate "mouse button down/up" too close of each other, and that seems to help quite a bit in reducing Tracker crashes related to context menues :-)
<Habbie>
lol. ship it :D
<OscarL>
have a version over codeberg already, but that's with hardcoded settings :-)
<Habbie>
:)
<Habbie>
i have 'mouse wheel reversal' on my list, with some notes from you i think ;)
<Habbie>

I have one of those already published "FreeWheely"... let me get you the link.
<ParseAsBNF>
I've read all the BeOS Newsletter, and I thank the BeOS community for that...
<OscarL>
I love the old newsletters, and was fun having OpenBeOS/Haiku onces while they lasted.
<ParseAsBNF>
I've read the BeOS Newsletters since 1993...
<ParseAsBNF>
Since then I wanted to learn C++.
<ParseAsBNF>
And I didn't find the Invalidate documentation to refresh the layout of my Window in the BeNewsletters but in the BeBook. ;-)

I remember an "annotated" version of the Be Book... that had comments from developers, either clarifying things, or pointing out errors/caveats and such.
<ParseAsBNF>
The RISC OS from the RISC PC is an Open Source OS nowadays. I hope Haiku will give us an officiel release soon in order for me to come back from BeOS5 because I use the CodeWarrior IDE.
<OscarL>
wait, you are Pierre Raynaud-Richard? (was confused by the wording, and because English is not my native language).
<OscarL>
(or just poiting out who worked on that 3Dkit?)
<Begasus[m]>
probably :)
<Begasus[m]>
Hi ParseAsBNF
<OscarL>
I remember Pierre's name from Chart's cource code.

The BeOS gave a modern IDE, sample codes and documentation from the beginning. Everything you needed for a developer.

<ParseAsBNF>
Thank you Begasus, BeOS is a hobby for me. But my real work is on GLPI who can manage 200 users simultaneously on 200 database tables using PHP/MySQL. I would work with composer on Packagist...
<dovsienko>
waddlesplash: src/system/libnetwork/netresolv/net/getnameinfo.c could be a bit shorter without the never-defined IFT_ECONET, IFT_IEEE1394, IFT_ARCNET, IFT_FDDI, IFT_HIPPI and IFT_ISO88025
<Begasus[m]>
BeOS spoiled most of us here (from one of the older users around) :)

ParseAsBNF: I've heard of GLPi, but never used it myself because I am a RackTables developer, at least I used to be earlier
<dovsienko>
RackTables is a PHP+MySQL kind of software too
<janking>
:) Begasus
<dovsienko>
waddlesplash: also the AF_APPLETALK case could probably be dead code
<ParseAsBNF>
GLPI is Gestionnaire Libre de Parc Informatique = Free IT asset manager
<ParseAsBNF>
I use GLPI everyday and I study it at home.
<ParseAsBNF>
GLPI uses Symfony the framework...
<ParseAsBNF>
I don't believe that you can learn C++ and the BeOS classes in 2 weeks. It's a passion you have to train every day like music.

i juse Beos long time ago then i tryied Zeta but it dint work for me now i have Haiku and just love it :)
<OscarL>
yeah, Zeta never properly worked for me. Even with the original 1.21 CD Bernd had gifted me :-/
<OscarL>
Success! after an embarrasing amount of tries..., now I can have a /RAMDRIVE at boot, backed on ramdisk+bfs instead of on RAMFS.
<Begasus[m]>
got the 1.21 from him in person at their headquarters :)
<Begasus[m]>
started out with Neo up until latest updates :)
<OscarL>
(gets a nicer icon too... "ram chip on top of disk" instead of "cabinet" icon)
<OscarL>
k, let's run a build for python3.14 and see what the memory usage looks like.
<waddlesplash>
dovsienko: all this code in "netresolv" comes from NetBSD and is synchronized with it regularly so I don't want to be modifying it arbitrarily

<OscarL>
has to be some kind of memory corruption error.

Was the Nvidia driver port published anywhere? I was looking at X512's open-gpu-kernel-modules fork but I doesn't look like its all been pushed. I just got qemu+kvm+3060 passthrough running and would like to give the nvidia driver a shot.
<Begasus[m]>
latest updates should be at the forum for now I think cameron
<cameron>
Thanks...didn't see the code but I'll take a closer look
<x512[m]>
It currently conflicts with Qt.
<Begasus[m]>
didn't follow all as I'm 1 on beta, 2 no Nvidia :)
<Begasus[m]>
oops x512 :)
<Begasus[m]>
also qt6.9.0? ;)
<x512[m]>
If I make Nvidia driver HPKG, installing it will cause Qt to be uninstalled.
<Begasus[m]>
jikes
<x512[m]>
Because of OSMesa dependency that is removed in new Mesa.
<Begasus[m]>
rebuild qt with new Mesa?
<x512[m]>
Some code changes are needed because OSMesa can't be used anymore.
<cameron>
Have you shared the source so I could try building it?
<Begasus[m]>
cameron: for Qt?
<cameron>
For the NVRM driver
<Begasus[m]>
ah no, wasn't for me :)
<cameron>
Sorry bout that :)
<Begasus[m]>
np ;)
<cameron>
I've been trying to learn more about Haiku kernel development. So far I've been experimenting with trying to add Venus protocol support to the Virtio GPU driver to get Vulkan. So the NVRM driver would be fun to look at and try too.
<x512[m]>
NVRM Haiku OS-specific code is not yet published. NVK NVRM is published, but it need some workarounds for building (put symlink to NVRM and patch 2 generates files).
<Begasus[m]>
woot OscarL extrowork beats you on that :P
