<nekobot> [haiku/haiku] waddlesplash pushed 1 commit to master [hrev58893] - https://git.haiku-os.org/haiku/log/?qt=range&q=183a60a7bc56+%5E6ef33c54e0cd
<nekobot> [haiku/haiku] 183a60a7bc56 - ICULocaleBackend: Validate that the created locale really exists.
<fancy2209[m]> So apparently I accidentally forgot to compile this as debug
<Skipp_OSX> It should be redrawing the window but isn't. A normal right-click pop-up redraw fine. It seems like something happening in BCountView is incompatible with my earlier changes but I do not know what.
<Habbie> fancy2209[m], when you said you 'enabled everything', did that include the debug menu?
<fancy2209[m]> I meant on the debug menu
<fancy2209[m]> I enabled the 3 options
Nasina has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<Habbie> ok
<Habbie> when i do that, my screen with the icons is full of text
<Habbie> wonder if something is going wrong there
<fancy2209[m]> very likely

<fancy2209[m]> need to make a debug build to debug better

<ilzu[m]> fancy2209: Great that someone is looking at the ppc port again. I played with the port with Yn0ga last autumn and we got into the kernel, but not far.
<fancy2209[m]> this far I assume?
<Habbie> fancy2209[m], btw, you can also look at the boot loader log 'so far' in that debug menu
<fancy2209[m]> I applied y0nga's changes
<waddlesplash> you'll want a serial line to see what's going on
<ilzu[m]> fancy2209: about that far, though we got to kdl too.
<Habbie> i saw -serial mon:stdio in fancy2209[m]'s qemu line
<Habbie> but they reported no output there
<Habbie> i suspect there's a few small steps that will go far here
<PulkoMandy> On powerpc we probably rely on openfirmware for serial or on-ecreen output
<Habbie> PulkoMandy, for on-screen, even with the boot loader framebuffer working?
<PulkoMandy> So just enabling the #erial output window from qemu won't do anything, if your openfirmware doesn't know about it
<PulkoMandy> Yes, the text could be written over it, if openfirm"are allows that. But there is also a compile time switch to disable the splashscreen and keep the onscreen console

<Habbie> right, i remember this from Sun hardware, writing text over the X display
<Habbie> (kinda like KDL)
<Skipp_OSX> sorta but with new world rom instead
<Habbie> ack
<fancy2209[m]> PulkoMandy: OF does know
<fancy2209[m]> Haiku never uses Serial
<fancy2209[m]> but OF does
<fancy2209[m]> * Haiku never outputs to Serial for me
<Skipp_OSX> OF yes that is similar to Sun
<fancy2209[m]> s/OF/OpenFirmware/
<Skipp_OSX> PPC ha
<fancy2209[m]> I am currently recompiling with the loader as a debug build
<fancy2209[m]> so I can use gef to debug like you show here
<fancy2209[m]> though you are aware you are emulating an Old World powermac right?
<fancy2209[m]> qemu defaults to g3beige
<fancy2209[m]> so you are doing a G4 Old World
<fancy2209[m]> * can use gdb with gef to
<fancy2209[m]> * so you are doing a G3 Beige with a G4 CPU
Nasina has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<fancy2209[m]> this happens on New World for some reason though
<fancy2209[m]> * New World (`-M mac99`) for some
<fancy2209[m]> can't even get to the bootloader
<PulkoMandy> fancy2209[m]: The kernel writes to openfirmware standard output I think, and you can set that to go to the serial port if you want

<Skipp_OSX> modem or printer port?
<Skipp_OSX> hehe
<fancy2209[m]> I am not sure how I can run ok com1 io
<Skipp_OSX> amazing you have a PPC Mac with a serial port that could run Haiku on
<Skipp_OSX> looks like you're in the boot loader and it is trying to boot from a CD

<Hanicef[m]> does anyone know the process of publishing something on haikuports? i forked the jxltranslator that is currently on haikuports and fixed it, and it would be nice if we could get the updated version published, too
<Hanicef[m]> the updated fork is here: https://codeberg.org/Hanicef/JXLTranslator
