<pol> The clock network sync is happening only if there's network but Wifi takes some time to connect - and its happening right at the system start, so you have to manually click the sync button if you use Wi-fi.
<nephele> yeah, it's a bit buggy :)
<pol> A lot of those older computers have their clock battery exhausted.
<janking> thanks for the tips :) pol

<nephele> it's not difficult to replace. Though if you have stuff that relies on timing in "early" boot you might be in trouble during the wifi connect window regardless
<pol> I was responding to Anarchos question here on IRC earlier today.
<Anarchos> pol it is not for a battery trouble, but daylight saving time
<Anarchos> pol in france i have 2hours offset for summer :)

<pol> There was some changes in a recent version regarding number of retries when doing TCP requests or something like that.
<pol> Im not sure if it always was like that for my hardware but after a while the wifi is often blocked, especially if I make many concurrent connections.
<pol> Could be just an issue with my network adapter/driver.

<pol> Are you sure its not just 1hr like it is in rest of the EU
<nephele> the EU doesn't have a unified timezone
<nephele> and yes, CEST is UTC+2
<pol> Yes but the shift is one hour not 2 like he was saying.
<pol> Look what somebody dropped on Haiku's reddit https://github.com/MagnetarRocket/haiku_styles-questionmark
<pol> I think that Mac7 decorator will not work but didnt tried it
<phschafft> it seems the structure is fs_info
<nephele> we have mac & flat decorators in tree, and the flat controllook
<nephele> the mac decorator does not work, because it does not do stack & tile
<bjorkintosh> WoC: lucifer means bringer of light. the morning star. venus.
<bjorkintosh> now it so happens that a ruthless death cult misappropriated the meaning and completely twisted it to mean something ugly.
<WoC> btw, CET/CEST, CET-1CEST,M3.5.0,M10.5.0/3, so UTC+1 during non-daylight savings and UTC during daylight saving time
<WoC> indeed, bjorkintosh
<WoC> although, there is morer to it ofc
<WoC> err more
<WoC> or for short; Lucifer; Enlightenment... forgot to install the spell checker...
<pol> Nephele, have you noticed the glitch in WP when you have two tabs and switch between them? The top frame have different gradient https://0x0.st/8ElS.png
<pol> I think its in all the apps by the way, the bar below the decorator have some different appearance.
<nephele> that's not webpositive specific, there are also other bugs where you can get the actual window tab to be "stuck" on deskbar because it doesn't redraw
<nephele> in webpositive you see this more often because one way to trigger is is the width of the app label changing, and webpositive does that often, while other apps don't do this at all
<nephele> I don't know if there is a ticket for this, though. So you can make one if you want :)
<pol> I think it's due to the color missing on the horizontal line one pixel high that goes all the way along the decorator.
<nephele> it's not redrawing where it should
<nephele> you had a window title there that matched the width of that error before
<nephele> it resized to smaller but did not redraw
<nephele> this is *very* difficult to see in light mode, probably why nobody fixed it yet ;)
<janking> :)
zard has joined #haiku
<pol> But we can make the change to the part of the top frame thats below the decorator to remove that dark line and let the whole top part of the frame be 2px heigh in lighter color then the problem in WP disappears.
<pol> I would try to make a bug report but Im trying to put it in words.
janking has quit [Quit: Vision[]: i've been blurred!]
<Molnija> reverse DST?
xet7 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<nephele> pol: no, we cannot. the frame around the window, and the tab, is drawn with a graphics library called a decorator. This is an implementation detail, and we have to fix the redraw of all decorators to properly fix this
<nephele> you can make the case independently that you might not want that color direclty below the window tab, but that doesn't change that this is a redraw bug

<nephele> did you check?
<nephele> I can't reproduce this bug at all. I reckon it appears if you work with the terminal a certain way... :)
<Anarchos> open tab 1. open tab2. In tab 1, type 'exit"

<pol> Yes, there is this gray area that appears when you close the tab - regardless of the method. But the window need to be sufficiently big.
<Anarchos> pol indeed.
WoC has joined #haiku
<nephele> Anarchos: only when explicitly typing "exit"
<nephele> or, i guess ctrl-d also works
<Anarchos> nephele it workds for me too wih alt+w with a big terminal
<Anarchos> i mean i reproduce the bug
<nephele> different bug then Anarchos
<nephele> because that one goes away if you try to reproduce it a second time
<nephele> (but maybe the same fix...)
<Anarchos> nephele i am not skilled at all in GUI
<Anarchos> so i can't do nothing
<nephele> ... you can report the bug
<nephele> reproduction steps is all that's needed, usually
<nephele> i'm not going to investigate this today, or this weekend
<nephele> so if you want someone to take a look a ticket is the right way :)
<Anarchos> nephele sure but no time for haiku these days
<Anarchos> even for filing tickets
<nephele> took more time talking here about this issue than filing the ticket would've been

<pol> I will do this then - it looks like the space that is occupied by tabs normally gets mirrored at the bottom.
<nephele> it's not mirrored. it's just using an incorrect size

<myriad> It's my first time contributing to open-source

<myriad> Does this extend to modern c++ initialization?

<OscarL> WoC: re: radeon_hd... oh, well. At least you now now for sure the driver won't work. (I add it to the "confirmed not working" list I seem to have started :-D)
<WoC> yup, so next will be a computer with either nv or intel gpu
<OscarL> For laptops, having bright control working is the biggest feature to go after, I'd say. For desktops... not much difference from running VESA.

<WoC> actually rubns really good on intel, just can't recall where that laptop is
<WoC> oh... so not the rtx 4070 ?
<OscarL> there's a developer working on driver for newer cards, with HW accel even, but I don't think it supports modesetting just yet, and is not really "ready for public" (AFAIK)
<WoC> might change as the new open source drivers from nvidia is available
<OscarL> driver I mention is based on that, yes, thus only supporting series 2000 and up.
<OscarL> my poor GT 1030 left for dead :-P
<OscarL> (motherboard died anyway, heh)
<WoC> i'm sure i have some original geforce card smewhere
<OscarL> driver for old nvidias supports from "TNT 1/2" to "GeForce FX/PCX 7xxx/Go"
<OscarL> (and some "Quadro"s from that era)

<scanty> works fine in freebsd and linux.
<OscarL> no more than the rest of us using the VESA/Framebuffer driver, I'd say :-)
<scanty> guess i'll buy a new card, eventually. i think this PC is 10ish years old...maybe more.
<OscarL> My GT 1030, for example, worked great in plain old vesa mode via HDMI...
<scanty> i'm certainly not complaining... VESA works pretty good for now.
<scanty> as it has been.
<OscarL> as we don't have hardware acceleration for video decoding, overlay not working in most hardware, no 3d accel, no multimonitor, etc... (except on a few old cards where some of that actually works)
<OscarL> ...anything that gets properly detected as video card, and can handle you monitor... "good enough" for Haiku :-)
<scanty> yeah, i'm waiting for that overlay...
<OscarL> video overlay, which I used extensively (as an end user, not developer) over the years... have been going the way of the dodo for looong time.
<scanty> i've developed with it, and found it really easy to work with for my needs
<OscarL> thing is... more and more stuff got moved over the 3D part of the drivers/cards... and 2d accel stuff got deprecated/abandoned/.
<scanty> ah
<OscarL> want to strech a video while playing? even my SAA713x TV card had video overlay support built-in, and did it for you....
<OscarL> nowadays... you send that as 3d textures for the 3d engine to do scalling and such.
<scanty> yeah, maybe one day i'll get rid of the DirectWindow mode in my emulator.
* OscarL remembers being able to use "desktop mode" to watch TV as the "wallpaper" in windows... using video overlay.
<scanty> doesn't seem much faster than a regular bitmap, but it's ahrd to tell
<scanty> hard*
