<InGloriousMe> Is installed yesterday it for a more extended period of time. Let's see how it will do.
<InGloriousMe> I also installed and activated the VNC server on it. I'm using it right now. It is a bit slow.
<nephele> using it over vnc will be a bit slow, indeed

<InGloriousMe> Linux Mint with XFCE on VNC is faster.
<InGloriousMe> Do you think Haiku OS can or will be able to adapt to AI like other OSs are doing?
<nephele> I don't even know what adapt to AI means
<Molnija> Various forms of questionably-intelligent AI are the latest tech fad, nephele.

<Begasus[m]> there's enough AI sh*t going on in the world, no place for that in Haiku (my 2 cents)

<JackDaniel> Sigur! Iată o variantă pentru un mesaj IRC pe un singur rând: Hi, due to my eye condition I usually use 1366x768. When I play games with Mednafen fullscreen and switch to lower resolutions like 800x600 or 640x480, it works fine, but after quitting Mednafen, my screen reverts to 1920x1200 and I have to manually set it back to 1366x768. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks!
<Begasus[m]> Hi JackDaniel , probably still a glitch in SDL?
<nephele> JackDaniel: is 1920x1200 the normal resolution of your monitor?
<nephele> or is that a wrong mode?
<JackDaniel> 1920x1200 is the highest one. I usually use it in 1366x768. When mednafen quits from fullscreen, it goes to 1920x1200, not to 1366x768 choosed by me from settings
<JackDaniel> if is possible, I wanna go back to 1366x768 when I quit mednafen, not to the highest resolution
<nephele> 1366x768 is a 16:9 resolution, while 1920:1200 is a 16:10 resolution, so the aspect ration doesn't match your monitor then
<nephele> normally, for eyesight you'd be able to "just" increase the font size in the system so everything renders bigger. In any case. for your specific issue this probably has to be fixed in libsdl2 so that it restores the previous mode
<JackDaniel> sorry, 1920x1080
cassisian has joined #haiku
<JackDaniel> I understand. Can I handle the resolution from command line or something?
janking has joined #haiku

<nephele> phschafft: i thought about what you said, that in unix lines *end* with a newline
<nephele> It makes me a bit annoyed that text editor always have a line+1 line at the end, if this corresponds to the newline character in the previous line, why is there a new empty line? wouldn't that imply a second newline char?
sure has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
cassisian has joined #haiku
<jezek2> nephele: depends on the editor, it shouldn't show an empty line, but some do, just tried that VIM has no extra line and mcedit has it
cassisian has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
sure has joined #haiku
<nephele> im writing some lua code on linux, kwrite (kate) does have an empty line there
<nephele> (and other niceties... maybe i should use vim...)
<jezek2> you can also pretend that the empty line is just a place to put a cursor if you want to add something at the end
<nephele> Maybe. But i like adding that myself :)
diver has joined #haiku
<nephele> on the other hand, i don't understand why text editors don't just let you place the cursor anywhere
<jezek2> in VIM there is weird edge case when you have an empty file, you have a single line (in order to show cursor) but it saves it to zero lines (empty file), when you add newline and save you have two empty lines, if you delete one line you get a true empty single line (but it isn't shown to you)
<jezek2> if you delete it again you get again a zero file :D
<jezek2> maybe that's the reason why editors prefer to add an empty line at the end
<jnn> it makes parsing easier: anything followed by LF = one line
<jezek2> yeah placing cursor everywhere is more flexible, however I always feel dirty in such editors because I don't know if there is a trailing whitespace or not
vdamewood has joined #haiku
<nephele> there should just not be trailing whitespace added, ever. but at the same time i can't use "trim whitespace on exit"
<jezek2> I think an editor should preserve/show the true contents of the file and not do any trimming
<nephele> because i'm not submitting a 300 line patch for a 2 line change :)
cassisian has joined #haiku
<nephele> jezek2: yes indeed, but at the same time i don't want it to let me add trailing whitespace to lines i change normally
<jezek2> on the other hand you have then random empty lines with trailing whitespace and others with no such whitespace...
<jezek2> it's a mess :D
<nephele> also, tab should indent and shift-tab unindent, no matter where i am in the line...
<jezek2> normally I don't notice, but it highlights it in diffs
<jezek2> in my editor component I've solved mixed tab/spaces by highlighting tabs after spaces with red background (to allow tabs for indent and spaces for align but not tabs after spaces)
<jezek2> maybe I should extend the same trick to trailing whitespace :)
<nephele> I guess I want an editor that does better with git (only change stuff i touch, and not reformat the file) and one that works a bit different with inpus
<jezek2> so it would preserve it as-is but you would be aware of it
<nephele> jezek2: Koder highlights trailing whitespace, that's good :D
<nephele> but it does it so inefficiently it breaks if you work on webkit
<jezek2> in my editor pressing tab just instert tab anywhere, but if you have a selection then tab and shift-tab indents/unindents the selection
<jezek2> a middle ground between freedom and sane behavior :D
<jezek2> I don't think I've changed indentation without a selection
<nephele> The only case where I'd ever want a tab inline is like, i guess in class definitions of Haiku? but that works fine with spaces too
<jezek2> like of a single line, makes not much sense to me
<nephele> i guess i just like the idea of a key ment for indentation, which is very common
