Clean Win10+VBox setup... first time booting Haiku from an USB connected SSD... slow as molasses. Turned off the audio emulation (was ICH AC97), next boot went far smoother.
<OscarL>
(this on a Celeron N4020 based netbook, giving the VM the two cores this little thing has)
<OscarL>
Slowly trying to setup a working Haiku/HaikuPorts machine again, as my Phenom II X4 won't start anymore no matter what I try.
<Begasus[m]>
g'morning peeps
<Begasus[m]>
wb OscarL ! and congrats! :)
<Begasus[m]>
and sorry to hear about the Phenom machine :/
<OscarL>
Hello there Begasus[m]! Thanks for the vote of confidence :-) (was quite a surprice when I got the email with the invite "out of the blue" :-D)
<OscarL>
yeah, pretty bummed about the Phenom :-(. Back to "dual core land" for me now.
<Begasus[m]>
no problem OscarL you deserved your spot :)
<OscarL>
Was thinking that as the first use of my new "powers" I could... just remove the "wip-no-merge" label on all the PRs that are already closed :-P
<OscarL>
(either that, or fix a minor copy/paste error on a wiki page :-D)
<poopnugget142>
when looking at an image of BeOS on it's wikipedia page I noticed that there is what I assume is a custom MediaPlayer UI is that something you can do in haiku?
<OscarL>
poopnugget142: that player is named "CL-Amp". Sadly, it was never open sourced (most likely based on old xmms from linux).
<poopnugget142>
aw that sucks is there something like it in haiku?
<OscarL>
(you should be able to still use CL-Amp on Haiku, but only on 32 bits)
<poopnugget142>
oh really!
<OscarL>
poop I bet some of the ported player, most likely audacious should be able to use old WinAmp skins, as the one on that picture.
<poopnugget142>
I don't really understand what 32 bits means but I'll check it out
<OscarL>
the name of that WinAmp skin is "Reality", in case you want exactly that one.
<poopnugget142>
oh alright I will try out both
<poopnugget142>
I've been listening to a lot of streamradio is there any way to get a skin for that?
jmairboeck has joined #haiku
<OscarL>
No, that program doesn't has support for custom skins of any type.
<poopnugget142>
aw that sucks it would be really cool to have that radio skin on a actual radio
<OscarL>
right :-). I'm a fan of that particular WinAmp skin too. Have used it, since 2000 or 2002, on every player that can handle it :-)
<poopnugget142>
only problem is I'm not sure where I can download music from it seems like most companies don't want you to do that

<OscarL>
you should have no much problems finding plenty of tuturials online on how to use "yt-dlp" to download music files from youtube and other places. "ripping" audio files from CDs you may own also always convenient.
<poopnugget142>
oh you can turn cds into audio files?
<poopnugget142>
my pc doesn't have a cd rom unfortunately I'm going to check if USB ones exist.
* OscarL
had ripping audio CDs from 1998 to 2006, and from cassettes even earlier.
* phschafft
hands OscarL some CDs from 1979 for ripping.
<OscarL>
phschafft: I did "ripped" *one* vinyl disc, but that was on 2002 :-D
<poopnugget142>
* Is this how you do the purple?

poopnugget142: colors varies according to your IRC client. "actions" are done by writting "/me" in front of the "action"
<phschafft>
ever ripped a phonograph cylinder? that would be fun.
* poopnugget142
explodes
<poopnugget142>
Oh my goodness that is the most incredible feature I have ever seen
<OscarL>
phschafft: heh, na... oldest audio format I saw working was some form of "magazine", and I think I was 54 y/o at the time (and would only get access to a sound card to do the "ripping" about 13 years later :-D)
<OscarL>
s/54/4/
<phschafft>
poopnugget142: ha!
<phschafft>
OscarL: I was about to say something like: you don't look that old!
<OscarL>
:-)
<phschafft>
if you had access to a soundcard in 1998, and that was at minimum 13 years after you where 54, that would mean that you must be born no later than 1931, or being 94 years old now. ;)
<Begasus[m]>
senior member of haikuports now! :D
<phschafft>
;)
<poopnugget142>
Me getting technical advice from a 90 year old would be pretty embarassing on my part
<phschafft>
why? how much older are you? ;)
<poopnugget142>
73 years
* Begasus[m]
feels young again :P
<poopnugget142>
Oh I think I misunderstood the question oops :0
<phschafft>
hahaha.
<OscarL>
I do give technical advice to all my younger siblings. Bunch a dumbasses around tech, those kids :-D
<poopnugget142>
I only learned to not put metal in the electrical socket after I did it lol jumped the breaker and shut off all the lights in the house
<OscarL>

updated microcode from version 0xc to 0x26. coolio.
<OscarL>
(also installed Haiku from the external USB-SSD into the internal mSATA one) Man... Haiku's install process puts every other OS to shame.
<OscarL>
DriveSetup still fails to change a partition type though, and needed to re-create it. Seems it fails to change partition type on both MBR and GPT partitioning styles.
