Hello from a "new" Haiku machine! (a Lenovo C225 All-in-One, with an AMD E-450 dual core CPU @ 1650 MHz)
<sen>
OscarL: ooh neat, hello!
<OscarL>
Even wifi autoconnects at boot, woot!!! :-D. WiFi card is a Realtek RTL8188CE (10ec:8176).
<OscarL>
hey there sen!
<sen>
cool, that's one of the (extremely minor) annoyances with my current Haiku laptop is that I have to manually connect each time (but I'm on b5 not nightly so with the more recent wifi work that has probably already been fixed).
<OscarL>
Everything but the webcam seems to work (fine by me!, would have disabled it if it worked :-P).
<OscarL>
Machine feels pretty snappy (specially considering its weak CPU.... about just twice as fast as an Atom N450).
<OscarL>
BIOS is a disaster though... Lenovo in their wisdom decided to ship a machine with 2 GB of RAM... and assign 512 MB as dedicated video ram for the IGP :-(
<OscarL>
and RAM, despite being 1333 MHz... runs at 1066 :-/
<OscarL>
(bios is extremely locked down, so no way to change the above issues)
<OscarL>
Let's see how long this takes to build Python 3.14 :-D
<OscarL>
sen: regarding the issue with wifi at boot... have you tried the "sleep for a bit then connect via ifconfig from UserBootscript" technique?
<OscarL>
heh, even my "amd_temp" driver works :-D
<OscarL>
weird, I'm running tail -f on /var/log/syslog.... and I'm seeing "KERN: radeon_hd: radeon_get_edid_info" (twice so far).
<OscarL>
seems it gets triggered on workspaces changes. 8-|

despite SATA ports being 6.0 G/s, my "el cheapo" SSD seems to not able to do more than 180 MiB/s sustained reads in Haiku (at leasts it beats the original 500 GB HDD in noise, power, and access time metrics)
<OscarL>
I thought I was getting poor speeds with that SSD on my other machines because they are SATA 3.0 G/s at best... seems it is just an "skill issue" with the SSD instead :-D
<OscarL>
17m to build an unoptimized Python 3.14 .hpkg. (for comparison: ~5m on a Phenom II X4, ~8m in a Celeron N4020)
<sen>
OscarL: no, that's a good idea though! It's not annoying enough that I've bothered looking into it much yet, the trackpad and lack of brightness control are more annoying so that's what I've been looking into recently
<OscarL>
yeah, I feel you with the trackpad thing... not working on my "fastest" netbook either :-( (the one with a Celeron N4020)
<OscarL>
luckily we got brightness control working on that one. Speaking of brigthness control... wish I could lower it further in this All-in-One.

Tring to change brightness via Screen, shows in syslog: "KERN: radeon_hd: transmitter_dig_setup: BUG: dig setup run on non-dig encoder!"
<sen>
OscarL: mine works but takes ~3 swipes to get from one side of the screen to the other, which is frustrating to use. It's probably not going to be a huge problem to fix, but I need to understand the input system and synaptics driver better to do so :)
<OscarL>
wish you the best of luck for when you dive in!
<sen>
heh, thanks :) I'll learn a bunch either way I'm sure.
<OscarL>
Mmm, got an 'ECIR' device in ACPI space... wonder if the infrared receiver is actually present (some models of this AIO came with TVTuners)
<sen>
also possible they leave all the "plumbing" in place either way and just don't stuff the IR sensor itself when they assemble those boards
<OscarL>
indeed.
<OscarL>
Should see if I can get it to detect any IR at all from Linux. I stripped the machine to clean it... but didn't got as far as to remove the screen (needed to access the little board where the receiver might or might not be)

sen: I have a TODO list item about wifi autoconnect, I tracked down a significant part of the problem in wpa_supplicant but didn't poke further

waddlesplash: cool :) like I said, it's not a major problem at all, if I really cared I'd probably fix it in userspace but it's a very minor annoyance.
