Hey all. I have an X13s running Debian Trixie and I've compiled and installed a kernel based on 6.16-rc7 from jhovold's git . I noticed after that the battery power level reporting stopped working, do I need to update a different user-space daemon, or did I end up leaving something out of the kernel config?
<longptr>
*noticed after installing the new kernel
<longptr>
Other question, is anyone using the video accelleration (v4l-m2m) on SC8280?

from debian experimental, i mean

but, johan's config should have the driver built in and you shouldn't need the userspace daemon (haven't for a while)

Think there was a conflict between the DTS and the surface aggregator module. They both were reporting battery charge and AC status. But I need the DTS pmic node to connect to the USB to detect the USBC charging cable is plugged in cause the sp12 doesn't have a normal surface charger port

On the Surface Pro 9 and 11, as far as I remember, the charging worked from the USB port out of the box
<jdb[m]>
I mean by using a similar devicetree compared to other sc8280xp / X1 models
<jdb[m]>
Are you saying there is a risk to burn the PMIC in general, do you think?

If I remember correctly, I tried *not* to get battery and charging status from the Surface Aggregator, but I don't have the devices with me to double-check

later could I just wipe this M.2 SSD clean and make "the usual" arrangement of partitions instead of keeping this mess shipped by default around on the X1E Asus Vivobook S 15? it reminds me of the UFS internal storage stuff on Androids where similar partitions are part of the firmware and must exist.. https://paste.c-net.org/p8gpdwnl6hji

Yeah, had pretty much everything but the UFS, GPU and sound working. I'm thinking I just overcharged the battery or something. The second USBc port was registering as having a short somewhere, as tested by a couple wires and the old biological multimeter. (As well as the short detection on some of my phone chargers). In any case, was able to just swap it out in store and am now going through the windows updates on
<harrisonvanderbyl>
the new one
<harrisonvanderbyl>
I even had the issue with the dispcc fixed by pulling in some recent patches around the second refclock

Great that you've been able to swap it to a new one
<jdb[m]>
Which issue with dispcc you're referring to?
<Badhri[m]>
<angeloverlain[m]> "i was about to get the surface..." <- Wait for the SL8 (should come out next month I think), either the SL8 will be a big upgrade over the SL7, or at least the SL7s should be heavily discounted
<harrisonvanderbyl>
jdb[m]: previously the display wouldn't initialize properly unless I disabled the dispcc node and it fell back to some sort of basic display, but now the mdss stuff starts up properly, it's still doing software rendering, but it's got proper display panel support via the mdss
<harrisonvanderbyl>
Now trying to get UFS working, no other x1e or x1p has anything similar, and don't have the correct clocks for some of the other UFS examples, so was trying to see if using the UFS node from something with similar setups would work
<jdb[m]>
I think I saw devicetrees for Huawei WoA tablets with UFS running the previous Snapdragon sc8280xp chipset, it could be a reference point to enable the UFS storage

longptr: no, not moving from trixie to sid, i meant taking the kernel deb from sid (which was a 6.16 rc last i checked) and using it's config as the .config (was merely mentioning its a possibility) - but even with trixie's kernel, you shouldn't need the userland daemon
<steev>
longptr: the thing to check with not having battery is, checking dmesg output that remoteprocs are starting, check for firmware loading, make sure the module is loaded

These are likely windows related,. On XPS I also had quite a few (though way less than on Asus Zenbook), wiped them all and just installed ubuntu. On zenbook kept windows, so cant confirm for sure. For sake of testing, you could see if its possible to disable internal ssd in bios, and boot from USB. Only thing i could imagine potentially breaking is bios capsule updates? On Dell these rely on EFI partition, not sure about
<alexVinarskis[m]>
Asus but seems in your table layout there is a dedicated capsule related partition.
<alexVinarskis[m]>
On the other hand asus also can flash bios from built in utility without windows, so if it needs an extra partition to unpack capsule update to, it would complain about it i guess?
