<agl> steev: With your 6.15.4 Kernel works all what I need (USB-C and USB-Thethering). Tomorrow I will test if I can use an external Monitor over the HDMI-Interface in the ACASIS-USB-C-Box.
<agl> steev: I can also access the two SSDs which are connected to the ACASIS-USB-C-Box, and also the Ethernet-Adapter.

<steev> oh good to hear
<zetam> Hey! First boot on my Latitude 7455 got stuck here https://ibb.co/93Z35j7G before auto-rebooting. Tried Ubuntu_Desktop_24.10_Lenovo_Ideapad_Slim_5x.img.xz frrom https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1sc_CpqOMTJNljfvRyLG-xdwB0yduje_O - finally passed GRUB! ;)
<zetam> I assume it already includes the patches <valpackett> [PATCH 0/4] Add support for Dell Latitude 7455 (X1E-80-100)]. That's what I thought, at a glance.
<zetam> Keen to move forward and provide feedback. Need suggestions for a minimal but functional boot.
<steev> that looks like it's acpi booting, and not using the 7455's dts
<zetam> I guess these patches do not include dts files... I'm stuck now
<zetam> Any crumb or coin helps! Gracias!! :D

<JensGlathe[m]> zetam: Hmm I did publish new images yesterday, but actually... I also applied Val Packett 's patches yesterday, but didn't upload it (6.16.0-rc3-jg-2). Maybe it makes sense to make a dedicated image.
<valpackett> zetam: I could make you a postmarketOS image I guess :D
<JensGlathe[m]> Its tag jg/ubuntu-qcom-x1e-6.16.0-rc3-jg-2 on my [repo](https://github.com/jglathe/linux_ms_dev_kit) now, too
<valpackett> Jens Glathehuh, did you not have the iris changes applied before in some other form? i guess my squashed patches are convenient but they also miss all the credits etc :D
<JensGlathe[m]> Val Packett: I removed iris when it proved to be more of a PITA earlier. Your‘s is a new attempt
tquinn has quit [Quit: going out!]
mani_s has joined #aarch64-laptops
<valpackett> PITA in terms of patching? yeah, my "new attempt" was just copy-pasting the changes manually from the patches directly into the editor
<JensGlathe[m]> No, actually using it
<valpackett> hm? the only issue with using it is that gstreamer specifically craps out when seeking
<valpackett> i think someone was tracking / investigating that somewhere? maybe?
<valpackett> btw has anyone else played around with cdsp/fastrpc? i get this: https://github.com/quic/fastrpc/issues/188

<zaktur[m]> Jens Glathe: thanks for sharing! I see, there is no ready-to-use Ubnutu installer with 7455 support, but having that kernel and dtb should make it relatively easy to craft one. I will give it a try today

<jhovold> bamse: alexVinarskis[m] reported that the button did not generate key events at all unless he stopped probing the missing pm8010
<jhovold> i assume he's aware of the holding down for half a second, but guess others may have missed that
<jhovold> or maybe that's what the bios update fixed?
<alexVinarskis[m]> yes it needs a short hold to work when it works. When it did not work, even pressing for 2s wouldn't register it. Pressing for maybe 10s would cut off the power. Im looking into BIOS and kernel variantions now.

<hexdump0815> Jasper[m]: just one little note regarding your galaxy usb research - did you already try to boot with usb hubs/devices connected to all ports? on galaxy book go it looks like bios enables usb ports and they remain useable within linux then
<hexdump0815> Jasper[m]: no real solution for your research, but it might help you maybe to get to userland in case it works
<Jasper[m]> @hexdump0815 I did try, but I need to properly declare USB in the DT first. Had some issues with that
<Jasper[m]> But I am almist at the point again where I can test something. Needed to get firmware fixed first
<lynxy> tried inserting dell eufi capsule files into the first efi partition between boots- no dice, so i've just flattened my windows efi into the linux one
<lynxy> that works
<lynxy> last efi partition*

<lynxy> also, the power button does appear to shut down the device- i had no clue that you had to hold it for a second or so
<lynxy> that's sort of odd behaviour
<jhovold> lynxy: thanks for confirming
<jhovold> how did the exam go?
<lynxy> that's in the hands of fate now
<lynxy> i'm honestly not sure- sometimes you feel like you've definitely passed, and others definitely failed
<alexVinarskis[m]> lynxy: does it do shutdown or power cutoff? Do you have pm8010 fix applied or not?
<lynxy> shutdown, i believe, and i do have the patch pm8010 fix applied from jhovold's x1e80100-6.16-rc4 branch

<lynxy> linux-aarch64 v6.16-rc4 sans-pm8010 patch behaves the same as with
<lynxy> button appears to trigger a power-off/suspend? after ~1 second of press
<lynxy> i don't have suspend set up so that might be behaving a little strange, but that's a different issue
<alexVinarskis[m]> hmmm, so you also cannot reproduce it. you are not on 2.8.0 bios, right?
<alexVinarskis[m]> I tried ubuntu's kernel 6.14... which used to have the issue, and cannot reproduce it either.. time to rollback BIOS
<konradybcio> HdkR: I fired up cs 1.6 on fex to see what the performance is like.. i did not expect 10 fps :p can you repro?
<HdkR> konradybcio: uhhh, lemme see
<HdkR> konradybcio: ~88fps in local game server
<konradybcio> i ran it on x13s fyi
<HdkR> ~100FPS with x87 reduced precision enabled, which is the max that GoldSrc can hit.
<HdkR> My X13s isn't test worthy, would be a bit hard to check there.
<anonymix007[m]> Val Packett: cdsp kinda worked here on T14s last time I tested it. But due to missing kernel support I can't get any logs, not even crash backtraces, so it's not very useful yet
<anonymix007[m]> Actually, your issue is probably v75 flag. X1E is v73
<alexVinarskis[m]> lynxy: jhovold: reverted XPS's BIOS all the way to 2.2.0, reverted kernel to 6.14.0-35 (ubuntu concept), cannot reproduce the issue. pm8010 fails to enumerate, but pwr button works. Last item left is OS, was Ubuntu 24.10, now 25.04. Will get live CD to check it as well tonight.

<\[m]> 2.5k for 64gb ram oled t14s -_-
<travmurav[m]> and you don't even get half the ram s/s//ss
<zdykstra> I can't even find an oled t14s to purchase. How do the 1920x1200 display options look?
<zdykstra> that's a great resolution on the x13s, but the t14s is a bit larger so the DPI drops a bit as a result.
<JensGlathe[m]> I have the Thinkbook 16 with 1920x1200, that's pretty okay and very usable, but nut gorgeous
<JensGlathe[m]> Still tempted to be sort of unreasonable and buy an Ideapad Slim 5x
<JensGlathe[m]> same res, but oled
<JensGlathe[m]> and 14"
<JensGlathe[m]> and blue, 32GB / 1TB
<tobhe[m]> xps is not very vi-user friendly
<JensGlathe[m]> same as hp omnibook i'm afraid
<zdykstra> I'm one of the diehards that has to have the Thinkpad Trackpoint on a laptop, or it's unusable to me. Kinda limits me :(
<JensGlathe[m]> oh and btw we got the [ideapad 5](https://github.com/jglathe/linux_ms_dev_kit/discussions/36) (Slim 5x and 2in1) up and running
<alexVinarskis[m]> <zdykstra> "I can't even find an oled t14s..." <- Zenbook 14 oled is a good budget friendly option. Though, being QD Oled of only FHD, there is more obvious than I would expect text fringing. Especially when compared side-by-side to XPS's 2K+ 13" Oled.
<alexVinarskis[m]> aah used reply feature by mistake again. pardon ugly text.

<alexVinarskis[m]> lynxy: jhovold: RE XPS button, the issue is not reproducable on 24.10 either. As I now tried all combinatios (kernel 6.14/6.16, Ubuntu 24.10/25.04, BIOS 2.2/2.8) and it still just works, my only idea is that it was an inter-cycle regression in either kernel or Ubuntu that was since fixed. I will update my pm8010 series to drop reference to power button issues.
