<albsen[m]> void09: ubuntu maintains a nicely installable concept iso. best laptop for xelite at the moment is the t14s 32gb (none oled); best arm laptop to use is likely the x13s thinkpad 32gb ram (my personal preference); its recommended to keep windows on a partition for updates
<void09> firmware updates?
<jhovold> with support in mainline, any distro should work (e.g. given recent enough linux-firmware)
<void09> uefi
<jhovold> there are very few user space dependencies (also listed in the wiki)
<void09> ideally i'd want a 32gb but 14" is too small for me, 16" 16:10 is ideal. also oled would be ideal.

<\[m]> no brightness control yet - is that dts related?
<\[m]> ah no it might be fw

<JensGlathe[m]> brightness control should actually work, that was a bit of iteration, but this OLED display does it with dp aux channel
<\[m]> so now dd the usb to a partition yeah?
<JensGlathe[m]> cautious.
<JensGlathe[m]> its 2 partitions. One EFI, one ext4
<JensGlathe[m]> on my repo you should find a how-to in the discussions
<JensGlathe[m]> you only want the ext4, the rest is an install dance
<JensGlathe[m]> with grub-install to set the efi boot variable, booting from the external disk
<JensGlathe[m]> and then moving this over to internal EFI with mount and another grub-install
<\[m]> let's dance lol
<\[m]> maybe it needs still the reboot for that brightness control
<\[m]> ok thanks a lot man 😲
<JensGlathe[m]> have fun
<JensGlathe[m]> what did you pay
chrisl has joined #aarch64-laptops
<\[m]> 800 euro 😲
<\[m]> I mean maybe I'll just get used to it
<JensGlathe[m]> 32GB?
<\[m]> yeah

<JensGlathe[m]> Then ist a really fair price IMO
<jdb[m]> d0pefish: let's wait to get some feedback on all / most of the other patches first
<\[m]> but if it's going to be heating up like the macbook air .. I'll continue tomorrow, I want to install tiny win11 even if it's risky
<\[m]> 85GB wtf is this bloatware
<JensGlathe[m]> they want 870 or so here, directly from lenovo
ravikant_ has joined #aarch64-laptops
<\[m]> oh it broke the dtb on apt upgrade seems πŸ˜†
<\[m]> for 32GB oled screen new laptop that's proper even if it has some downsides
<JensGlathe[m]> I paid 800 for the tb16 non-oled

<\[m]> yeah I'm not the oled convinced yet, we; ll see
<\[m]> brightness control still not working mm

<\[m]> in theory I can get your grub options and the dtb and build my own right? esp. now I can boot in aarch64 linux
chrisl has joined #aarch64-laptops
<\[m]> it's amazing work rly, thanks so much
<\[m]> do you want me to report iny our github issue?
<JensGlathe[m]> yes, that would be cool
<JensGlathe[m]> a dmesg, too, and hwinfo64 log from Windows.
chrisl has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<\[m]> 120hz external screen it's like 55inch 😲 that's insane
<\[m]> no lag
<\[m]> I already took a hwinfo hehe I'll post it tomorrow together with my logs

<JensGlathe[m]> 4 lanes rock
<JensGlathe[m]> that keyboard is sort of a letdown for that hardware, at least a getting used to
<\[m]> bluetooth works, backlight too
<\[m]> the 4 lanes is not upstream yet right - it does totally fckng rock waw

<\[m]> in theory you could replace the enter and other key, they share the same hole
<\[m]> not going to pop off the keys yet, maybe I'll just get used
<JensGlathe[m]> no, 4 lanes is not upstream. But it works well, also thanks to alexVinarskis

<jdb[m]> tobhe @th:stusta.de: you should be able to add support for the Surface Pro 11 soon, hopefully
ravikant_ has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<steev> tobhe[m]: was there some change to flash-kernel? it doesn't seem to copy the dtbs over anymore, saying "System running in EFI mode, skipping"
<steev> so e.g. i just got the 6.16 kernel update on the t14s, but it didn't copy any of the dtbs or make the symlinks (i haven't bothered rebooting, and i can just copy the file(s) over myself and re-run update-grub and it will then add the devicetree entries, but figured i'd mention it if it isn't known
<alexVinarskis[m]> is it a t14? There was a rename of DTs to support OLED iirc, perhaps related?
<tobhe[m]> indeed, that might be the reason
<tobhe[m]> yeah that's probably it
<tobhe[m]> thx steev alexVinarskis
<tobhe[m]> guess we need to update the DB with the (LCD) and (OLED) strings
<alexVinarskis[m]> and perhaps keep the fallback to old one?
<tobhe[m]> ack. just need two new entries
<tobhe[m]> eventually I want a nice way to migrate OLED users with existing installations to the correct one
<steev> ahhh, yeah that might explain it :D
<tobhe[m]> flash-kernel using the model as key is kind of a crime anyway
<deathmist> jdb[m]: neat! would you mind running a script to add support into dtbloader for SP11? it's missing hwids for some already pretty well supported devices in general still which I made a tracking issue for on the repo
