<valpackett> so weird, after like a few minutes of listening over the headphone jack the dsp starts acting strange, as if chaotically boosting the gain in the left headphone on and off at random(?) moments

<JensGlathe[m]> valpackett: sound is not completely drop-out free or distortion-free. For me sound deteriorates after a while, too.
<valpackett> at least the onboard mic works great, just tested it in production :D on a 30 minute work call
<valpackett> speakers did drop a channel once when i was trying higher volumes but i didn't test speakers too much yet, i barely ever listen on speakers

<valpackett> ohhhh weird, so right now i have this boosted left headphone and i see HPHL Impedance at 0 and HPHR Impedance at 12
<valpackett> so it's like the automatic headphone impedance measurement is glitching out?
<JensGlathe[m]> this really sounds like it, and its odd. What do they do
<valpackett> they aren't adjustable in alsamixer
<valpackett> hm, access=rw------ actually.
<valpackett> but 'Operation not permitted' upon trying to set, so it does seem like a sense reading
<valpackett> but that's just the sort of big consistent channel difference that sometimes happens
<valpackett> there's also.. like.. that momentary boost in the left channel that's not visible to the os or anything
<JensGlathe[m]> If there's a sensed imedance change, and other shenanigans like power adjustment, this could be enough for the boost. A few decades ago (yes I'm that old) amplifiers were easy and analog tech. Still, getting HiFi out of it was a challenge.
<valpackett> so far i've been testing with a turned-off sony xm5, maybe the fact that the digital circuitry is still There might be affecting something
<valpackett> (still happens with them turned on)
<JensGlathe[m]> That sensing of the impedance change is erroneous, probably. No idea what they do, I have no clue about modern amplifiers
<valpackett> ok no the momentary thing doesn't depend on what's plugged in, confirmed with trash earphones as well
<valpackett> that one just feels like a weird dsp effect that overdrives the channel depending on .. something

<valpackett> oh, i do get dmesg warnings: 'wcd938x_codec audio-codec: Impedance detect ramp error, c1=2, x1=0x0'
