hey how do "night lights" apps work on wayland? cause in wayland its pretty hard due to how locked down the scren is due to the compositors are
<solomoncyj>
is there any way to listen to all keystokes in wayland? eg for self defined global kebinds (push-to-talk apps such as mumbule, im looking at you)

<zamundaaa[m]>
no
<zamundaaa[m]>
You asked about global shortcuts a few times already, and were also already told how apps can support them
<solomoncyj>
i was looking at apps that dont propperly implement it
<zamundaaa[m]>
Those apps have to be properly fixed. There are no shortcuts for that (pun not intended)

It probably could, if it added support for the portal

zamundaaa[m]: random question, is there a reason kde doesn't support the ext-session-lock-v1 protocol for lockscreens other than it being a low-priority change ?

We have our own lock screen solution. As long as that work, there's simply little reason for us to support anything else
<Eighth_Doctor>
I don't think we'd say no to a contribution for support, though?
<zamundaaa[m]>
Unless kscreenlocker is ported over to it, I'd say no

<zamundaaa[m]>
Not sure if changing kscreenlocker too much is in the cards though, until kwin_x11 is completely dropped
<zamundaaa[m]>
Because it uses the same mechanism for making screen locking a bit less terribly insecure on X11
<Eighth_Doctor>
Consolatis: I imagine the ask is related to LXQt and the new port of xscreensaver to wayland?
<Eighth_Doctor>
or is there something else that is driving the ask?
<Consolatis>
Eighth_Doctor: not specifically, mostly out of curiosity because being unable to share a screenlocker / screesaver among different compositors is something that is sometimes brought up as deficiency of wayland as a whole
<Eighth_Doctor>
yeah, it's a fair criticism
<Consolatis>
so I looked into the support for ext-session-lock-v1 and saw that KDE doesn't implement it and wondered why
<zamundaaa[m]>
Lockscreen overlay is something completely else
<Eighth_Doctor>
oh?
<zamundaaa[m]>
It's about overlays over the lockscreen
<Eighth_Doctor>
oh you're right
<Eighth_Doctor>
I misread the description
<Eighth_Doctor>
oops

I do think it'd be nice to support it since LXQt and a few others use KWin too and being able to leverage things like xscreensaver on KWin for Wayland would be nice
