xue: inertial scroll is not a libinput feature, it's a feature of the app in question

kennylevinsen: i dont believe thats the case, its not the enabled when you use normal mouse. I know you can disable it in programs that support it, but why cant libinput treat my touchpad like any other mouse?
<kennylevinsen>
xue: that is the case
<kennylevinsen>
what libinput does is report the scroll source - finger vs. wheel for example
<kennylevinsen>
and the wayland protocol also provides this information to applications
<kennylevinsen>
They then implement inertia when the scroll source is a finger
<kennylevinsen>
in firefox for example, in about:config there's a kinetic_scroll setting, just like they also have a smooth scroll setting
<xue>
ok then why cant i put dumb info, pretend that my touchpad is a wheel
<kennylevinsen>
no idea if you can easily make libinput lie about the scroll source for touchpad scroll events, maybe with the upcoming plugin system thing
coldfeet has quit [Quit: Lost terminal]
<kennylevinsen>
but that's a hack, and won't for example disable inertial scrolling for touch
<kennylevinsen>
what you're looking for is a way to tell your app you don't want inertial scrolling, not make things lie about input sources
<xue>
why does the open source community comes up with worse and worse solutions each year? its systemd its wayland its pipewire its vim like
<xue>
have you ever considered making things better, or is it like an assurance that no-one will ever fire you from this non-paying job because someone has to fix it
<kennylevinsen>
such gratitude for the manyears upon manyears of effort people put into developing the stuff you use for free
* kennylevinsen
is not engaging further in this conversation
<ifreund>
yep, that's a pretty clear signal that this user does not want help
<xue>
when i bump into problems like that, i wished that effort was used on mushroom hunting
<xue>
ifreund: yeah i think that too, kennylevinsen really doesnt want to help
<xue>
wayland elitist
<daniels>
xue: watch your tone
<ifreund>
xue: I mean that you seem to be here to complain rather than accept the generous help you have been offered for free, you do not seem to want help
