FYI: Patchwork is dying again, and it's bots again. I want to set up Anubis with exclusions for API endpoints and such to make it usable again - anyone against?

<kode54>
you can also reconfigure it to allow some UAs
<kode54>
but that requires poking at the docker image or the package
<DragoonAethis>
UAs are mostly randomly generated from what I can see in the logs
<kode54>
oh
<kode54>
it's funny
<kode54>
because the default config bans all the major "legit" AI services too
<DragoonAethis>
(They look like valid Chrome/Brave/Firefox UAs, but have version/OS/etc numbers all over the place, from various IPs)
<kode54>
ie. all the chatbots
<kode54>
I don't think the chatbots are using that stuff, nor do I think they're likely being used to hammer services
<kode54>
but they're banned on principle I guess
<DragoonAethis>
At this point it goes down multiple times per day, either it gets unblocked for people or it just stays unusable
<kode54>
I say do it, but I'm not staff or one of the major developers, just a user
<kode54>
I also managed to talk Arch into doing it to their wiki
<kode54>
only problem thus far is that it also blocks google translate, but I don't expect most people will be browsing patch emails with an auto translator
<DragoonAethis>
I'd say it's an excellent advertisement for built-in offline translation in Firefox :)
<kode54>
I found I couldn't use that for a certain web site I've used for downloading certain things
<kode54>
something about missing support for Russian
<kode54>
probably should wean myself off that anyway
<DragoonAethis>
Try downloading the full model in Settings - General - Translations
<DragoonAethis>
Normally it tries to download just the partial model and that doesn't work, the full one is pretty reliable
<kode54>
oh
<kode54>
I didn't know there was a large model I could download
<kode54>
holy crap, that's a lot more languages than there were when it was first added as a about:translations page
<DragoonAethis>
Yup, at least on desktop, mobile still doesn't support that many
<DragoonAethis>
But what is already there covers almost everything I need
<DragoonAethis>
Now if they only added image OCR translation, Safari-style
<kode54>
Safari also uses hardware specific features to do the OCR
<kode54>
so I guess other platforms would need their own models
<DragoonAethis>
Yeah, but it's a semi-solved problem already
<DragoonAethis>
There's software that can OCR what's on your screen and display translations on top of that in real time, done for visual novels and what not
<DragoonAethis>
Tesseract models are really good for most things

Anubis is now in front of Patchwork, load went straight to 0 right away, thank you very much <3
