actually, no, it is just "Webcam" now
<twb>
eagsalazar: I guess "video decoder" means the part of the SoC that does H.265 video decoding efficiently. So if it's not there, apps use the normal CPU instead, which is slow but works
<eagsalazar>
twb: video camera isn't working for me except to show an initial image that is monochrome green with some artifacts. I'd say it then "freezes" but really it never animates at all, just a single image capture. Are you having "slow" but working video camera on similar hardware to mine? I wonder if there is some workaround I can try.
<chaos_princess>
ignore the slow part, that was not about the camera at all.
<chaos_princess>
which app are you testing with
<eagsalazar>
Gnome Camera
<eagsalazar>
I also tried zoom
<eagsalazar>
in firefox
<chaos_princess>
How old is your os install
<eagsalazar>
About a month. And just had a bunch of updates a few days ago.
<chaos_princess>
Does it work in macos?
<eagsalazar>
yeah, macos is great. Laptop is only about a year old
<chaos_princess>
Run some app that opens the camera, then run dmesg. Is there anything suspicious in the kernel log?
