<gentoouser> there are many things I think could be better hinted by the right install doc because I really need to decide many times which way to go
<gentoouser> thank you for helping me with the stage3 file
<chaos_princess> what things should be better there?
<gentoouser> I would think systemd and efi are preferred
<chaos_princess> systemd - preferred, efi - required
<gentoouser> which profile is preferred?
<gentoouser> arch-chroot is not available
<gentoouser> optimal compile options?
<gentoouser> anything about use flags? accept_license?
<chaos_princess> aside from arch-chroot, isn't all of that just generic gentoo stuff where generic guides apply?
<gentoouser> my issue was plasma. now I want to resolve the issue by reinstalling everything the most preferred way possible
<chaos_princess> profile - whichever you want, use flags/accept_license - same, optimal compile - probably just "-O2 -march=native"
<gentoouser> Tried openrc yesterday - same thing as Jared's doc
<gentoouser> now trying systemd
<chaos_princess> which issue was with that doc?
<gentoouser> plasma was slow
<gentoouser> compared to pc
<gentoouser> on x the fade errects lagged, on wayland even cursor was tearing
<chaos_princess> probably llvmpipe
<gentoouser> is there a way to know for sure?
<chaos_princess> anyway, i am using default/linux/arm64/23.0/desktop/plasma/systemd VIDEO_CARDS="asahi" and ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~arm64"
<chaos_princess> run glxinfo and see if "llvmpipe" is mentioned in output

<seb__> Slow Plasma was LLVM pipe. You can check with glxinfo -B.
<seb__> You should get OpenGL renderer string: Apple M1 Pro (G13S C0)
<seb__> If not, it will be llvm and slow.
<chadmed> gentoouser: init system should not impact graphics performance. either mesa is not being built with the correct drivers enabled, your kernel config is incorrect, or you haven't updated m1n1 after installing the kernel
<craftyguy> jannau: does this need to be updated to point to the new m1n1 thing for the eufi-only install? https://github.com/AsahiLinux/asahi-installer-data/blob/main/data/installer_data.json#L170
<jannau> it will need to updated but it's not ready yet. the github zip file isn't compatible with the installer. it expects "esp/" and "esp/m1n1/" in the archive instead of just "esp/m1n1/boot.bin"
<craftyguy> ahh ok, I see
<craftyguy> thanks for the update :)
