<f00b4r0>
the morons at Contabo have yet again broken my VPS network. Incidentally my subscription expires this month: time to look for better alternatives
<Habbie>
when i got fed up with contabo i got a hetzner VM
<Habbie>
still need to move a few things though
<f00b4r0>
I just discovered that they also retroactively applied the new pricing to my yearly-paid subscription. Wunderbar.
<f00b4r0>
so I was supposed to have paid a full year of service but it will end after 10 months. Way to do business.
<Habbie>
they're assholes in many ways
<f00b4r0>
incredibly so, it seems yeah.
<Habbie>
my once 4 EUR VPS with great specs is now a 12 EUR VPS with shit specs
<f00b4r0>
nice
<f00b4r0>
ovh seems pretty competitive as well

ovh can be quite shit hot at times ;-) (fire reference)
<f00b4r0>
heh :)
<zer0def>
no-no, they're just practicing clouds using smoke, not vapor :)
<minimal>
OVH *do* use vapor, their servers are water cooled
<dpawlik5577>
and that huge pool in their basement :)

eh, lost my irc bouncer host. Maybe I need to go back to the old days and buy the cheapest VPS...

Hetzner might be a good hoster, but they don't appear to react to abuse-mails fast enough/at all. Hetzner apparently is a primary reason Spamhaus had to hide their previously public DNSBLs behind accounts to be able to block DDOS attacks on their services
<Rondom>
merbanan: hauke: How complete is the code at https://gitea.osmocom.org/gpon? Of course it is for Lantiq, not Airoha/Econet. I am just wondering...
<hauke>
There is no source code for the OMCi deamon
<hauke>
the code to do PLOAM is there

hauke: but that is actually more than we have for airoha/econet. :-)
<hauke>
Rondom: the network path of the lantiq falcon is very specail
<hauke>
normally no traffic goes to the CPU
<Rondom>
you are saying that in contrast to newer lantiq SoCs for which no sources have been found in any GPL dump yet?
<Rondom>
AVM Fritz!Boxes still use old Falcon SoCs for some reason, but there are probably way cheaper old devices with that SoC
<hauke>
Rondom: The Fritzbox 7530 and 7590 are using a more recent PON SoC. The PON kernel drivers are all licensed under the GPL, but AVM does not want to relese the code.
<hauke>
I mean 5530 and 5590
<Rondom>
ah then I was misinformed. I thought I had seen falcon in some filename
<hauke>
falcon is the old GPON SoC, Falcon Montain is the internal code name for the successor which also supports XGSPON. Falcon Montain is PRX321, PRX126 and PRX120
<dwfreed>
hauke: sounds like somebody should find an org with decent funding and have them arrange a GPL enforcement lawsuit :)
<hauke>
There are no new devices wth the legacy falcon produced as far as I know, so it does not make much sense to invest there much time now
<dwfreed>

my gemtek w1700k (an7581) has a pwm fan controlled by an nct7511y chip. it has a built-in fan curve, but it has to be enabled by "echo 2 > pwm1_enable". where's an upstream-acceptable place to put a one-liner like this so the fan control works out of the box?
