<Habbie> cholman, i've found that if you take the lead on it, you'll probably get help. So maybe start with writing down somewhere what you have, what you found, and what you did so far

<cholman> well so far I've got the router apart and I've soldered wires to the serial pins, and about to set up RPi on a Pi 2. Beyond that, not sure of next steps
<Habbie> neither are we, with zero information
<Habbie> one trick to getting help on irc is making sure that a random passer-by can see the entire question, type an answer, and disappear into the sunset again
<cholman> And I'm quickly remembering why I quit using it a decade ago

<plappermaul> I'm a little lost adding UBI/UBIFS to the realtek target. I see that some targets use MKUBIFS_OPTS and one defines PAGESIZE on a per device basis. MT7622/FILOGIC seems to be an exception. PAGESIZE is there but I do not find MKUBIFS_OPTS. What is the way to go?

<hauke> plappermaul: This has to match the NAND flash chip
<hauke> Nowadays the page size s 2K on most flash chips, probably filogic defined it because all devices use that
<plappermaul> Thanks. I found the difference. Filogic uses feature nand while some other define ubifs.
<plappermaul> I now aktivated FEATURES += nand on my device and set PAGESIZE and BLOCKSIZE. Image compiles and I at least have the ubi tools in the image.
<plappermaul> Next challenge is that the venord images have ubi with realteks ECC nand engine. That is not yet available. So tons of " ubi0 warning: scan_peb.constprop.0: valid VID header but corrupted EC header at PEB 16"
<plappermaul> hauke/robimarko: BTW. thanks for the timely integration of my recent patches
danitool has joined #openwrt-devel
<hauke> plappermaul: are any other the realtek patches ready?
goliath has joined #openwrt-devel
<hauke> plappermaul: when the boot loader uses the realtek ecc engine we should also use it or at leats the same algorithem.
<hauke> maybe the kernel already supports the algorithem

<robimarko> Nice to see more people working on realtek
<dwfreed> I have a handful of realtek hardware here now, some of which is usable for testing
<hauke> plappermaul: Simon gave a talk about his plans for realtek switches at battlemesh: https://media.freifunk.net/v/openwrt-on-realtek-switches
<dwfreed> for more fun, one of the gs108tpv3s has a different MCU than the other one, and it doesn't work
<robimarko> plappermaul: merged
<plappermaul> Thx.
<plappermaul> Cool talk, cool vision. Lets see if it will really happen ...
<plappermaul> Our small phone booth is filling up :)
<plappermaul> dwfreed: talking about this one Issue 18620?

<plappermaul> which type?
<dwfreed> GS108TPv3 is also Netgear, not ZyXEL; technically upstream openwrt doesn't have support for it yet, but all the pieces are there and one just needs to combine them (which I've done manually, and I should upstream)
<dwfreed> oh
<dwfreed> s/108/110/g
<dwfreed> numbers are hard

<aiyion> interesting, it appears qualcommax-ipq807x was called ipq807x-generic before. Is there more info on why a target might change its name in OpenWrt?
<aiyion> I think the only time I perceived that before was ar71xx?
<schmars[m]> armsr arm7 & arm8 as well
<schmars[m]> the other day some realtek target changed its pkg-arch
<schmars[m]> and individual device profiles move to a different target sometimes as well
<schmars[m]> if you need that info in a downstream project, take a copy of the output of 'scripts/dump-target-info.pl architectures'
<robimarko> aiyion: because it was turned into qualcommax
<robimarko> Which now supports ipq807x, ipq60xx and ipq50xx as subtargets
<robimarko> As they share a lot of stuff
robimarko has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<aiyion> nah, you get me wrong :)
<aiyion> I'm all fine and already found the relevant details for my downstream project ^^ I was just interested if the was a discussion on the mailinglist I could read up on to understand the motivation better.
<aiyion> *if there
<schmars[m]> riscv and lantiq also changed target names last year
