Hi everyone, I've got a question about running on M3. I'm aware it's not fully supported, so I'd like to help with the development and testing on my own laptop.
<jmtp>
What would be the best way to get started? Just run the installer to flash m1n1 bootloader and go from there? Or install it manually instead?

<chaos_princess>
you will have to do it manually, installer will refuse to run on m3
<jannau>
the installer versions obviously don't make sense for m3 devices. I would choose the latest available 14.x installer since the nvme firmware changed in an incompatible way in macos 15

<jmtp>
It's a mpb with m3 max. MacOS is 15.5.
<jannau>
I probably should spent some time to get j504 (14-inch M3 Macbook Pro) usable
<chaos_princess>
there should be installassistants for various 14.x versions on archive.org
<jannau>
jmtp: I did not mean version of the main macos install
<chaos_princess>
apple unfortunately does not keep them forever on their cdn like ipsws
<jannau>
I think the latest installer of each main macos version is still available from apple's CDN
<jannau>
12.7.4 and 13.7.6 are still available as well
<chaos_princess>
oh, neat. well, it is still a problem for 12.3 and 13.5 that we use, but at least less of an issue for 14.x

<jannau>
13.7 would probably work, there is just very little reason to test that. 13.6 does work. We tried it in the hope to work around the dcp promotion bug

So what I wanted to do is to install m1n1 as stage1 and stage 2 bootloaders. Then uboot as well. From there it must be regular Linux kernel boot which I'm used to.
<chaos_princess>
you won't reach u-boot with upstream m1n1 i think?
<jmtp>
jannau: I assume the installer approach would be to run MacOS on top of m1n1 for reverse engineering purposes, right?
