ChanServ changed the topic of #asahi-alt to: Asahi Linux: porting Linux to Apple Silicon macs | User-contributed/unofficial distribution ports | Logs: https://alx.sh/l/asahi-alt
<jannau>
noisycoil[mds]: looks like the issue is reproducible with linux-image-6.16.3+deb14-asahi on the m2 mac mini. I even see less but that's probably just quiet boot
<noisycoil[mds]>
Thanks for going all the way to test that. The user was able to boot with nomodeset but gdm crashed., and I'm able to reproduce the crash on my M1 Pro MBP
<jannau>
I forgot that I have serial. yes, same random pointer dereference at the same place
<noisycoil[mds]>
I'm trying to see if he's able to login to a console at least, he hasn't answered yet
<noisycoil[mds]>
Do you have a config handy that I can compare with ours?
<noisycoil[mds]>
Working config from fedora or gentoo
<jannau>
probably related to multiple power-domains in the framebuffer0 node. that would explain why it does not happen on M1* devices
<noisycoil[mds]>
Do you have any indication as to why you're not seeing this in fedora/gentoo?
<noisycoil[mds]>
Or raw linux-asahi, whatever you used on your M2
<jannau>
sddm / ttys are broken with modeset, ssh works
<noisycoil[mds]>
He says with nomodeset too
<noisycoil[mds]>
APPLE/ASAHI configs are the same
<noisycoil[mds]>
The entire diff is 10k lines though so I won't be able to find anything without knowing where to look for
<cy8aer>
For those people who use my packages and want to stay in testing: Mesa 25.2.1-2 is in unstable now and will be in testing soon. Because this is full featured I will not update my mesa packages anymore. And hopefully you will have a smooth transition. It works for me with my 6.16.3-1 kernel. But feel free to ask if you have problems here.

cy8aer (IRC): M1 right?
<cy8aer>
right
<cy8aer>
Ah, you still have the problem with m2 minis...
<noisycoil[mds]>
Yep
<cy8aer>
And I tested 25.2.1-1 with 6.14.8-1 as well. I do not know when the mesa api transitions was but it was before 6.14.8...
<cy8aer>
s/was/were
<mps>
cy8aer: it was in april
<jannau>
noisycoil[mds]: I might have something
<noisycoil[mds]>
Nice
<noisycoil[mds]>
I'm all ears
<mps>
cy8aer: mesa 25.1.0 has asahi gpu
<cy8aer>
Yes but I have older kernels in the repo and the the api transition was IMHO a 6.14 too.
<jannau>
and asahi-6.14.3-2 and later have kernel driver with upstream api
<cy8aer>
ah, that is the version. Thanks
<jannau>
is there an easy way to ignore version deps with `apt-get build-dep`?
<jannau>
I have here "libaudit-dev : Depends: libaudit1 (= 1:4.0.2-2+b2) but 1:4.0.5-1 is to be installed"
<mps>
cy8aer: iirc 6.14.4 kernel but not rely on my memory
<cy8aer>
yep
<mps>
ah, jannau_ answered
<jannau>
downgraded to libaudit1 1:4.0.2-2+b2
<cy8aer>
jannau: but for production purposes you do not need the dev files. Or you update libaudit-dev...
<cy8aer>
(sorry, I read it the wron way you try to build it)
<cy8aer>
you needed the build-dep for mesa? Which version?
<jannau>
kernel, all sorted out. patched kernel is building
<noisycoil[mds]>
jannau: thanks, I was making coffee
<noisycoil[mds]>
Ah yeah, you were trying to install the testing/unstable kernel in trixie
<noisycoil[mds]>
