on H700
<warpme>
hmm - thats interesting. i tested on 2 diff h618 devices and constantly getting gpu hangs. Played with constnt vdd_gpu and also with limiting opp to 432, 600 and 800. Still hangs....

loki666: with PPU, reparenting, and panfrost patches i got it quite stable as long as i have only 800mhz and 600mhz opps. Enabling 432mhz gives quick hang. what gpu opp table you are using?

to somewhat answer my own question: TV output stuff is mentioned in drivers/gpu/drm/sun4i/sun4i_tcon.c (just not for my SoC, H2+)
<spawacz>
Hi, I've got an old Mango pi mq pro gathering dust, how well is it supported by mainline kernel?

jn: AFAIK there is no TV out for H3, something not too easy to fix, jernej would know more
<apritzel>
spawacz: there is a DT in the mainline kernel, with WiFi and USB supported. No mainline U-Boot (for the D1 in general), though

apritzel: Does the kernel mainline work, though? I scoured the web and 3 different documentation pages (linux-sunxi, gentoo) point to Samuel's branch on github. It's not been updated since 3 years. I built it and it boots properly, but the board hangs as soon as more data is written to the sdcard (with apt update for instance). Not sure if that's issue related to the the kernel
<spawacz>
version. The sdcard itself is healthy

spawacz: smaeul might chime in here, but AFAIK most (if not all) of the D1 patches were upstreamed, so mainline's master would be a better branch to build
