<chaos_princess> out of curiosity - why would you want manual fan control?
<ciara> ah looks solid for the august release. I think last time i checked in fan control wasn't ready/a option yet. Looking through the irc chat history https://oftc.catirclogs.org/asahi/search?q=fan+control# it looks like that still is the case?

<bluetail> I did temporarily use a fan controller + a low noise adapter and it was nearly silent enough, and my disks were still below 50C

<bluetail98> thinking about hot glue and a fan extender, along with 'native' quiet fans cause no fan-temp control

<tinstew> because im not a fan of where the control key is on an mac layout or even swap control and option would work too if the earlier not a option

<zshrc> If you're doing builds on macOS I recommend using a fan controller. I keep mine at 1500 rpm constantly. Keeps it cool and can't be heard.
<millenialhacker> I see my M1 Pro really hot while building chromium. Should I expect Fans to be activated? Are Fans controlled by Asahi Kernel or it's something handled by co-processors firmware?

<nicolas17> is the MBP fan controlled by firmware?

<nsklaus> i'd prefer better cpu/gpu management than fan control though
<mps> nsklaus: I made small daemon for intel macbook (old one from 2009) to control temp by increasing and decreasing fan speed

<janrinze> marcan: thanks, so how do we control the fan to ensure that our CPUs don't over heat?

2022-05-10

<deagle50[m]> Macs Fan Control app can slight lower the idle fan speed. I haven't heard it but the developer says it's a noticable difference. Worth a try

<j`ey> what controls the fans?
<Glanzmann> I think the fan is not controlled by Linux at the moment.

<Redecorating[m]> marcan: on t2macs you need patches to applesmc + a patched version of mbpfan to get fan control. It makes it quieter, but I doubt it'll be as quiet as m1 macs. There's no harm in not getting fan control, but if you want it, see patches 3001-3006 here https://github.com/aunali1/linux-mbp-arch and https://wiki.t2linux.org/guides/fan/

<marcan> fan control another, temperatures another, etc

2021-10-18

<j_ey> isnt it weird that speakers are basically just very controlled fans
