<HdkR> Oh hey, the X2E laptop that has Windows on it is baking itself for some reason. That's not unexpected
<HdkR> ah, it still had a wifi network configured so it managed to update itself. Quality
<HdkR> Meanwhile the asus completely discharged itself while plugged in. :)
<steev> clover[m]: idk what you uploaded, but here on irc that "video" shows up as a 7 second audio bite
<steev> clover[m]: https://nightlies.tbb.torproject.org/nightly-builds/tor-browser-builds/tbb-nightly.2026.08.27/nightly-linux-aarch64/ - tbb is only available as nightlys for arm64 still (its been like 2 years?)

<notHorseface_> it's you, lol.
<notHorseface_> all good I shouldn;t have pressed enter I just autocompleted the nickname...
<notHorseface_> haha
<clover[m]> steev: I just uploaded a video showcasing the gammastep / redshift stuff working on 2 external display port monitors
<clover[m]> [@_oftc_notHorseface_:matrix.org](https://matrix.to/#/@_oftc_notHorseface_:matrix.org) 0/
<steev> clover[m]: i don't believe you
<clover[m]> Lol
<steev> i'm just sayin, whatever the link is, on irc it just shows up as a 7 second audio clip
<clover[m]> Here then
<steev> nice
<clover[m]> Steev: good to know about the tbb thing. Cant brave browser do tor also?
<steev> think so, but you were trying to use tor browser launcher
<steev> when i was at kali, i was considering modifying the tbl to try to pull the nightly image down

<anthony25> notHorseface: what did you do to make it work?
<deathmist> just switch from alarm apparently lol, need to start more actively suggest against using that it seems if it comes up
<deathmist> then again it really could've just been some kernel config toggle, no idea since nothing was really debugged
<Mis012[m]> <clover[m]> "Steev: good to know about the..." <- at that point might as well compile it from source for arm, tor browser launcher exists for a reason though

<notHorseface> yes, it works far better than it had using alarm, tbch.
<notHorseface> that is all which I did, changed over from the port that I was using. and on this one many things which did not work before are now working.

<lynxy> :o
<lynxy> finally got jglathe's kernel fork running as an archlinux package and i finally have speakers
<lynxy> whoo
<min1123[m]> Aw, I want speakers. And headphones.
<JensGlathe[m]> Just do it ™️
<min1123[m]> What branch are we on now?
<JensGlathe[m]> jg/ubuntu-qcom-x1e-7.1.y or jg/ubuntu-qcom-x1e-7.2.y, I try to keep both in sync
<JensGlathe[m]> Mainly still working on 7.1.y, less quirky
<min1123[m]> Nice. I'll try tonight.
<lynxy> does jg/ubuntu-qcom-x1e-7.1.10 include vinarskis' ec driver for the dell xps device, jens?
<lynxy> i know that this is not a device that you're focusing on
<JensGlathe[m]> Yes it does, however if he changed something in the last 2 months on it, then... not the newest ver. But I did integrate code for EC and thermal zones on Thena.
<lynxy> awesome, thanks!
<lynxy> hmm, i'm getting some flickering on the right-hand side of the internal display- it looks like the final column of pixels is messed up a little. it might be a misconfiguration of kanshi tho
<lynxy> hmm. stops flashing when i wiggle the mouse consistently
<JensGlathe[m]> not here. I (sometimes) see green flash artifacts when multiple display and crossing a display border with the mouse, I guess some msm fuckery
<lynxy> problem for another time- disappearing for the weekend

<steev> Mis012[m]: its just a bash script. the point is that its supposed to download and verify the build. the vast majority of people (even in here) don't want to sit through a compile of a web browser
<Mis012[m]> steev: well, normally it would be packaged by the distro
<Mis012[m]> but they are afraid that would make fingerprinting easier
<Mis012[m]> and I guess reproducible builds are not a thing with firefox
<Mis012[m]> if you compile it for aarch64, then it's clearly going to be a different build
<Mis012[m]> than what 99.9% of tor browser users are running
<min1123[m]> @jglathe:matrix.org https://github.com/jglathe/linux_ms_dev_kit.git - commit 748e39e64ba435b22aff7ed4864480c0c514bedd (HEAD -> ubux1e72y, origin/jg/ubuntu-qcom-x1e-7.2.y) - is very broken for me. All the configs fail, to include defconfig and oldconfig.
<JensGlathe[m]> I'll check, it built here. Installing...
<steev> Mis012[m]: well they already provide the builds so...
<Mis012[m]> for aarch64?
<Mis012[m]> then I guess their launcher is just broken
<Mis012[m]> I thought there wasn't an aarch64 build
<steev> they do, but only as nightlies still, the launcher only checks x86 (and afaik, doesn't do nightlies stuff)
<steev> https://www.torproject.org/download/tor/ i guess they're finally in alpha
<min1123[m]> I'll do a fresh clone. Literally the config/menuconfig/nconfig/defconfig/oldconfig don't work on my cloned repo.
<Mis012[m]> nightly for aarch64 does sound to me like you might as well have the distro package it ngl
<steev> if the distro has devs that want to
<Mis012[m]> not sure how many people are gonna be running the same build in that case
<Mis012[m]> steev: well, I think on x86 it's specifically not recommended
<Mis012[m]> so that everyone runs the same build
<Mis012[m]> it's not that it would be harder than packaging firefox
<steev> its not about harder/easier and about someone wanting to and doing it, when it comes to a distro
<JensGlathe[m]> min1123: just installed and booted, all good. also did the defconfig dance, good, no changes. Now building (haven't built it on this box yet)... but since config hasn't changed, should just work ™️
<min1123[m]> Same stuff on the fresh clone.
<JensGlathe[m]> tried ./devbuildconfig.sh?
<JensGlathe[m]> the defconfig should ofc work, my config is ubuntu_x1e_defconfig though
<JensGlathe[m]> hmm no idea, ever built a 7.2 on that box? Looks like something bites
<clover[m]> Please use pastebin or similar service so we dont flood the chat
<min1123[m]> I always forget the IRC cross-connects and stuff.
<min1123[m]> Anyway, I can build other stuff, but doing a checkout from master also fails to do a config the same way.
<steev> i'm gonna blame glibc
<min1123[m]> Grabbing Torvalds repo, to make sure it isn't my Fedora 44.
<steev> those error messages have quite a few results in the googlebox, and always seem to point to something to do with glibc
<min1123[m]> I built some smaller C programs to prove to myself that in general the GCC + GLIBC were still working.
<min1123[m]> @jglathe:matrix.org Torvald's stuff blows up in kconfig trying to use any of the config stuff the same way. Guess I'm reinstalling Fedora soon.
<min1123[m]> BTW, thanks for checking.
<JensGlathe[m]> NP
<valpackett> @_oftc_steev:matrix.org @mis012:matrix.org not only nightly, also the flatpak published to flathub, it's mozilla official for aarch64 as well

<valpackett> oh, *all* of that discussion was for tor? nvm sorry
<steev> valpackett: aye, tor :)
<steev> or rather, the tor browser bundle
<Mis012[m]> for vanilla firefox I don't think there's any reason to not just have distros package it, and they do
<steev> and the fact that tor-browser-launcher doesn't support arm64
