<notHorseface> I mean that if you were to graph the acitivty on a plot, it would resemble this: ~~~ ...
<notHorseface> whereas injecting it is like / a STEEP onset, and a VERY gradual \ which is more elongated than this, of course, gradual, you see... a 100mg injection lasts for me, for a duration of forty hours. 'smoked'? it lasts a few hours.

<deathmist> speaking of OmniBook the X2E ones seem to have "back to school" deals atm.. hate how I'm still intrigued when the deal doesn't even feel that good (EU) especially if the guaranteed inbound suffering is also factored in
<deathmist> somehow I'm also expecting annoying quirks to be no different from X1E like battery draining (Linux) or downclocking (Windows) under full compile load for example I saw on every laptop I went through before giving up eventually
<nergzd723> (it downclocks on Linux too)
<penguin42[m]> hmm, I don't think I've seen battery draining during full build on this Asus - but it is just the 8 core
<deathmist> nergzd723: yeah that's a no for me on X1E Vivobook plugged into original 90W charger with ~vanilla kernel 7.1.8 just e.g. running an LLVM build https://i.imgur.com/JFbaDqM.png, /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq are all pinned at 3417600 and bat% drops as I let the build keep running
<nergzd723> Oh, interesting, so it pulls more than 90W? xD
<nergzd723> On my Dell I have a 65W PSU and it surely doesnt drain but it definitely does overclock
<nergzd723> I guess Dell firmware is trying to prevent me from trying to burn the lappy down
<deathmist> I can't imagine 12 and especially 18 core X2E to fair any better.. if only these expensive memeboxes had bypass charging. under Windows replicating the same test on WSL I saw it downclock everything into 2.2 GHz effectively turning it into an X1P from X1E
<penguin42[m]> will they take a pair of chargers?
<deathmist> nergzd723: I've had this same exact behavior across HP (OmniBook X), Lenovo (Slim 7x) and Asus (Vivobook) X1E laptops, none of these can actually handle the chip somehow
<penguin42[m]> I wonder what happens on the Lenovo little desktop systems without a battery
<deathmist> don't those have the most useless SKU?
<Derek[m]> My X2E has a few cores at 4454400 (just looked)
<nergzd723> deathmist: well, I think dell has it sane ish from what I observe, I think it's not taking power from battery if there's an adapter plugged in
<nergzd723> this is my first device that does that fwiw, all my previous asus laptops (x86) always sucked battery regardless
<deathmist> nergzd723: since it still doesn't seem to give you full perf meh but nice ig. I'd like to know if *any* X2E laptop at all is different in this regard. I just want my expected all-core perf without killing battery..
notHorseface has quit [Quit: https://ineedsomeacidtocalmmedown.space/]
<anthony25> I'm rebasing my local patches on top on 7.2
<deathmist> penguin42[m]: but nah also plugging in my https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/accessories/acc500106-thinkpad-usb-c-dock-gen-2-overview-and-service-parts (~60W laptop charging) to the other USB4 type-C port does nothing, still same ~7W or higher battery drain under full CPU load for me. would've been kinda crazy if they were combined somehow
<anthony25> but any idea why the dts for hamoa have not been merged?
<nergzd723> deathmist: fwiw if it actually takes 90W there is no way my puny 13" chassis can dissipate this much anyway
<nergzd723> but yeah it would probably be frustrating for bigger laptops
<anthony25> And is there a patch series already to add it in hamoa devices? (I didn't find one)
<anthony25> otherwise I can send it at least for the slim 7x, I'm using it for a while
<deathmist> what also is frustrating is the battery constantly charging very slowly even with a set limit (/sys/class/power_supply/qcom-battmgr-bat/charge_control_{start,end}_threshold) but only if I boot Linux, but apparently this is somehow a model-specific problem (in ADSP firmware?!) since others can't repro

<deathmist> QC_IMAGE_VERSION_STRING=ADSP.HT.5.9-00806-HAMOA-1 and based on strings it was at least built in early 2025 👍
<penguin42[m]> hmm mine was at 00831
<penguin42[m]> yeh, still is
<nergzd723> deathmist: lol, doesn't do that for me
<nergzd723> `/local/mnt/workspace/CRMBuilds/ADSP.HT.5.9-00800-HAMOA-1_20241029_215407/b/adsp_proc/sdc_core/products/src/exceptions.c`
<nergzd723> uhh is my even older? (this was in strings qcadsp8380.mbn)
<deathmist> nergzd723: fwiw it's charging maybe ~0.1W per hour after reaching the limit so you won't notice it unless you look at battery percentage or UPower energy etc over time. in KDE I've made the battery tray icon hidden when plugged in but it pops back up every now and then and disappears again when it charges just a bit more
<nergzd723> For me it definitely doesnt do that, it stays on 80% always... unless you shut it down and replug the cable and then it charges to 100% -_-
<deathmist> stuff like this is the reason I want to get rid of this thing, perfect WoA laptop for someone's good day to be ruined by the absolute mess of a proprietary Vulkan driver /s
<deathmist> (in case WoA itself wasn't enough to do that)
<deathmist> and in case X2E doesn't fix these things guess I'll check back in some years again

<Derek[m]> Still stilling there on all 12P-cores temps but temps do rise into the 90s after a couple of minutes. My MBA does the same. I don't think that's a fault of the CPU. Just the physics of a laptop.
<deathmist> do the fans at least spin up properly? not just some low firmware defined static speed
<Derek[m]> Fan do spin up and down
<nergzd723> deathmist: I mean tbh the laptop does everything I need xD not perfect but I don't even know what would be better:
<nergzd723> an intel/amd platform? Would be slower and worse in power consumption
<nergzd723> mac? also slower if Im picking old macs to run Linux on it, and the concept of running macOS is not appealing to me

<deathmist> impossibility of proper eGPU setup on macs alone makes it not that interesting to me especially after I now have a dock and all. the broken things on X1E that should work for me are more annoying than anything perf/power related at this point

<clover[m]> you got eGPU on X1E working? last i heard someone got it in windows with nvidia i think
<anthony25> maybe with the recent usb 4 patches?
* penguin42[m] had thought there was supposed to be a pile of stuff that was still outstanding
<deathmist> clover[m]: I said possibility, I haven't tried on Linux yet but I probably couldn't figure it out anyway since the redriver needs further changes afaik. but yes I've got RTX 3070 working great under Windows with one of the USB4 ports
<deathmist> technically you probably could make it work on macs too but nowhere near even ~80% of expected perf like we've got here
