steev: JensGlathe[m]: I tried out the dc zva fix on my devkit and can't seem to reproduce it. Must be the delta betwen internal/external devices. Currently trying to get my hands on a OEM device that has debug policy enabled that way I should be able to collect full dumps on it. Will keep you posted
<steev>
sibis928376: it needs to run on a kernel without the dc zva "fix" (or maybe jens firmware is newer/older than yours?
<sibis928376>
I just tried it out on latest linux-next so it shouldn't have the dc zva fix?
<sibis928376>
also don't think it's newer/older firmware as well since we aren't able to reproduce this on our internal CRDs running the latest firmware.
<icecream95>
Making sure the machine is otherwise idle helps with reproducing, also increasing the sleep duration might help to ensure a deep enough idle state is entered
<sibis928376>
I mean I can reproduce this on my dell machine within the first second of running your binary. I don't see that happening with our internal CRDs.
<sibis928376>
and I need to be able to look at the tz logs to figure out the crash reason to figure out why this happens so trying to trying to get a device with debug policy enabled to collect dumps.
<sibis928376>
steev: Sorry for the typo, I was trying to reproduce the dc zva issue not the dc zva fix ...
<steev>
sibis928376: i figured, but wanted to be sure you weren't trying to reproduce it by applying one of the patches and then running icecream95's reproducer :)
<steev>
sibis928376: other option... the internal CRDs have the latest firmware which has it fixed and no one else has picked up whatever the fix is in their firmware :P

My devkit shows that behavior. It is one of those sent out shortly before qcom canceled it, so no fw updates since then. I still have the drive image made before first power on, maybe this helps?

JensGlathe[m]: just sharing your current image version through the strings in qcom socinfo should be enough for me.

Hmm qcom_socinfo doesn't show an image version. But inxi does: 6.0.240901.BOOT.MXF.2.4-00468-HAMOA-1

the more I hear about everything the more I start thinking "ARM" and "not a mess" are mutually exclusive. even on WoA (under X1 and presuably X2 too) I realized people on iGPUs have no choice but setup Zink themselves for getting anywhere near acceptable perf in <=1.16 Minecraft versions.. prob would've not noticed if eGPU worked on Linux but lol

honestly, I find that the GPU part is really good compared to the number of users
<anthony25>
intel had a big market share and their driver was pretty bad for ages
<anthony25>
I was complaining about PSR for qcom, but intel had a buggy PSR for years, or a buggy RC6 that was kept disabled by default

On Windows, I've seen issue after issue after issue with their GPU drivers... on Linux, I don't even remember seeing a broken game other than long-since-fixed Xonotic, and Doom 3 BFG Edition
<icecream95>
Still a mostly-nice GPU, though I am sad about missing out on the 2x efficiency improvement in X2
<deathmist>
that's true, but there's different challenges instead especially relating to still missing features years later, stability (needs non-mainlined devicetree/errata patch), EL2 (which is a complete mess on X1) etc. it just feels like it's an eternal construction zone no matter which OS you pick which is bit sad when at least the CPU part itself is so powerful
<JensGlathe[m]>
On Windows you're mostly good (and on EL2), but on Windows
<deathmist>
EL2 on pre-X2 WoA-first hw may be good when it no longer needs extra kernel patches on top of mainline as well, I'd rather use whatever aarch64 distro provieded vanilla kernels at this point but I'm afraid that's not really going to happen with X1+EL2 especially
<penguin42[m]>
it needs the magic old windows binary so I don't see how it can be out of the box through distros
<deathmist>
ofc but needing kernel patches too just makes it that much more annoying

hi, has anyone gotten hibernation working on the x13s? the image writes fine (1.8gb in 5.8s), powers off cleanly, but resume hangs — nothing from no_console_suspend, no capslock light. noresume boots normally. 7.1.8-arch1-3, stock arch aarch64, bios 1.67.
<wordables>
separately i have a reproducible hard lockup in xhci_plat_resume_common on xhci-hcd.6.auto (a800000.usb) during pm_test=devices — 7/7 with the controller bound, 4/4 clean after unbinding it from dwc3, across two boots on 7.1.5 and 7.1.8. dmesg from the 7.1.5 run showing 3 failures, the unbind, then a clean cycle: https://gitlab.com/-/snippets/6034461

anthony25: I was honestly tempted to say 8 years but I've cut them some slack for the first gen woa devices that didn't have hyper-v on windows either

the line can be arbitrary, bu there were many generations of woa devices, and only now did they properly fix one of the dumbest issues with it

you can't derive shareholder value by making a product you're most proud of

JensGlathe[m]: FYI, I tried the ubuntu 7.2 kernel (linux-image-7.2.0-3-qcom-x1e) on my dell xps13 but it had some display issues in clamshell mode with an external monitor after suspend/resume. Half the screen stayed black after resume. It fixed itself after opening the laptop lid, and closing it. Today I tried your 7.2.0-jg-0-qcom-x1e and I don't have that issue anymore.

I'm not sure what patches you're carrying or DT changes you're making, but whatever they may be, it fixes this problem.
