I have PSR2 entry and exit working on my T14s now, but I'm not able to send partial updates. Kinda stuck here, unless someone can help with some Qualcomm docs for the rest. PSR1 and PSR2 saves an equal amount of power on a 100% non-updating screen here that amounts to 0.5W out of 5W, so it's quite a lot (especially if the target is 2-3W)

I can confirm that PSR1 works on T14s and Slim5x (when the patch is there, otherwise its flickering hellscape)

Same on slim 7x, i just have one quick flicker after starting hyprland, and then it's all good

I have subliminal flickers on the slim5x, therefore its off for now. And I'm still chasing my "where tf does the clock from" issue on hotplug HDMI when booted without a HDMI sink plugged in.

On OLED, unless you set the screen really bright, the power saving is not much anyway, but I think we reach the point where it's 0.1W to save here and there

<valpackett>
@jglathe:matrix.org hmmmm there have been various clock related patches…
<valpackett>
that one seems the most relevant since it talks about "was not initialized by the boot firmware [..] DP/DSI is not functional" and "without a HDMI sink plugged in" sure would make that dp not initialzied by the boot firmware

anthony25: PSR does not relate to brightness - you simply save the machine the effort of transferring the same static image over and over to the panel. So PSR efficiency depends on how much is not happening on your screen.
Melody91 has joined #aarch64-laptops
<anthony25>
Oh yes, that was a stupid statement
<HdkR>
The Windows side drivers tend to just do three things at the same time. Enable PSR, lower the brightness super hard, and on Intel machines, enable a sharpening filter that their display controller has integrated.
<HdkR>
That sharpening filter degrades image quality so badly
<penguin42[m]>
wow, Macbook Pro M4 with 16GB RAM and a busted display goes for £310 for the same place these Zenbook of similar RAM/storage were going for £100
<Mis012[m]>
and the zenbook can boot into a usable OS, fun
<penguin42[m]>
although I'd give the Mac a better chance of remembering to turn it's HDMI/usb-dp on in the firmware
<Mis012[m]>
how tf is that the firmware's business though
<penguin42[m]>
Mis012I mean so you can *see* the firmware
<Mis012[m]>
well, if it's the only screen then I guess it would matter
<Mis012[m]>
but otherwise I don't think bios setup screen shit supports multimonitor anywhere
